Stutes, Taylor Named Players of the Week, Taylor Day to Day with Injury

Michael Taylor was named IL  player of the week for the week ending August 16, after a week in which he hit .417, including hitting for the cycle. the first time that has been done in Lehigh Valley history. Additionally, Taylor became the first IronPig to record two OF assists in the same inning.  Taylor has missed games both Sunday and Monday after suffering an oblique injury.  He is currently being called “day to day”.

In Reading, Mike Stutes was named EL Pitcher of the Week for the same time period after two starts in which he allowed just 1 earned run over 13 innings.  Stutes, 22, was the Phils 11th round pick in the ’08 draft. He struck out 15 over those 13 innings.

  1. Stutes has really turned it back around in the last month. I’m sure he’ll get some time in the big league camp come spring training. He’ll have a few teammates for company.

  2. If im not mistaken they also recognized Buschini in williamsport as well:

    New York-Penn League
    Adam Buschini, Williamsport
    .611 (11-18), 3 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 SO, 4 SB, .778 SLG
Adam Buschini, the Phillies’ fourth-round selection in this year’s Draft, had a breakout week. He had two or more hits in four games, five going back to last Sunday, and he went 4-for-4 on Saturday while legging out his second triple of the year. He stole two bases on Friday and another one in Sunday’s 1-for-4 game. Coming into the week, Buschini was hitting .190. His average now sits at .252

  3. Real Quick Lakewood “scouting” report / amatuer observations from the Lakewood @ Charleston game yesterday….

Matthew Way: He went 5 giving up 4r on 8h, but he k’d 5 and didn’t walk anyone. Most of the hits were singles. His off speed stuff did look filthy, but he didn’t have good command.

Anthony Gose:Went 1-4, was fast ont he paths, but made a terrible error in CF and most interestingly…DOES NOT weat batting gloves.

Travis D’Arnaud: Had two walks, threw out the lag runner on a double steal. He could be something down the road.

D’Arby Myers: Ive watched him for awhile stat wise and besides the aboe he was the player I was most interested to see. Needless to say, he has no clue at the plate. Cam up with the bases loaded after two BB’s and swings at the first pitch to end the inning. Really, really terrible and it is a shame since he has some physical tools…..

all in all, I saw a bunch of players who can throw and run, but none who can hit or hit for power (Muprhy hit a HR, but he IS 24)…it almost seemed to me that the batters came up to bat withouy any restirctions and would swing whenever they felt like it. Not the best way to teach plate discipline. That said, other than Way/D’Arnaud I don’t think there is any future in the Claws. Then again…WTF do I know.

  4. Buschini is built like a 3rd baseman and in his non-pro years did play there some. IMO it’s only a matter of short time before he’d be assigned there…given our needs at the ML level.

It seems that he has power from his college days’ play.

I suppose they’ve had him at 2nd base mostly at Wlmspt to get him comfortable in pro ball before moving him to 3rd base.
    Hope so.

maybe Buschini pulls a mike taylor next year. meaning, weak first half season and then blows up.

Really? Mike Taylor had a weak 1st half?
He was on fire 1st half….hence the callup to AAA

  6. Taylor’s initial rookie short-season at I believe Batavia was very poor….hit about .220 & really showed very little of the prospect ghe has become.
