Gauntlett Eldemire interview

Thanks to JKearse for another interview.

.396/.496/.723 with 16 homeruns and 16 stolen bases in 202 at bats. These were Gauntlett Eldemire’s college stats as a junior for Ohio University. Gauntlett was the Phillies 2010 draft pick, and the 6’3 195 pound outfielder is known to have plus power along with plus speed. Unlike most Phillies outfielder picks, the 21 year old is right handed and murdered left handed pitching last year at a .400 clip. A 2010 All-Mid-American Conference First Team selection, Eldemire was projected to go anywhere from the second to fourth round and the Phillies grabbed  him with a sixth round pick. Unfortunately, while in Philly for his physical with the team, the doctors discovered a chipped bone fragment as well as two torn ligaments which came from being hit by a pitch and it prevents Gauntlett from getting on the field immediately. This was his second unfortunate injury recently, the other being a stress fracture in his leg dooming his shot at playing for Team USA. However, he should be healthy in the fall, and while his skills are raw, he has a ton of potential and could be very exciting to watch once he gets on the field. Thanks to Gauntlett for doing this interview.

Tyson Gillies and Matt Rizzotti Mini Interviews

Tyson Gillies came to the Phillies along with Philippe Aumont and JC Ramirez in an offseason trade for Cliff Lee, sending the all-star to Seattle. Gillies has been hurt most of the year, which is disappointing because you can see during batting practice he has immense talent. Known to be a speedster who can get on base and steal, Gillies has some pop in his bat as well, able to hit HRs to all fields even with an elbow brace on. Thanks to Tyson for his time.

Cody Overbeck Interview

Phuture Phillies recently got a chance to sit down with the Threshers slugging third baseman Cody Overbeck to talk with him about baseball and life. Overbeck was drafted in the ninth round of the 2008 draft out of Ole Miss after his Junior season and finished the summer of that year in Williamsport where he hit .272 and set a team record for RBIs in a season. In 2009 Cody skipped over Lakewood going to high-A Clearwater where he had an off season hitting just .230, but at Clearwater again for a second season in 2010 he has gotten off to a red hot start. We wanted to know what he thought about his season so far, how he got here today, and where he hoped to be at the end of the year.

Prospect Q/A with Kevin Goldstein

Friend of phuturephillies Kevin Goldstein recently released his Top 15 Phillies prospects list, and he was kind enough to answer some questions for the site. As always, he provides some excellent insight into his rankings, as well as talking about a few guys who didn’t appear on the list. His answer on Phillippe Aumont gave me a bit more confidence in him, actually. So check below the fold for a Q/A with KG

Travis Mattair Q&A

Phuture Phillies has been contacted by the Lakewood Blueclaws Media/Public Relations Manager Greg Giombarrese, for the purpose of doing a Question and Answer session with Lakewood 3B Travis Mattair, and the questions will come from you ,the reader.  Feel free to post your questions for Travis in the comment section of this post before 12:00 p.m. tomorrow.  When a question is posted, please use a first name and a hometown.  If these requirements are not fulfilled, the question will not be asked.  Your answers to the questions submitted will be posted both here, and the Lakewood Blue Claws blog sometime later this week.  By way of brief background, Mattair as many of you know, is a 6’5,  20 year old 3B for the Blueclaws, playing his second season in Lakewood after being drafted in the 2nd round of the 2007 draft, out of Southridge High School in Washington.  He is hitting .250/.362/.340 on the year with 2 HR 23 RBI and 7 SB.

Prospect Q/A with Kevin Goldstein

As many of you frequent readers know, Kevin Goldstein, prospect guru at Baseball Prospectus, has always been extremely generous to this site, contributing lots of insight whenever I’ve asked, and I was fortunate enough to crank out another lengthy set of questions, to which he replied with excellent (per usual) responses. You’ll find his answers below the fold.

Prospect Q/A with Kevin Goldstein

I figured I’d ring in the new year with an always popular feature, a Q/A with the top prospect guru at Baseball Prospectus and longtime phuturephillies favorite Kevin Goldstein. KG recently unveiled his Phillies Top 11, and was kind enough to answer an extended set of questions I had on his list and on all things Phillies prospects. You know I’m not one to shamelessly plug sites here, but I’d recommend the Baseball Prospectus yearly subscription for Goldstein’s weekly features alone, but you also get good major league coverage, as well as access to the PECOTA projections, probably the most accurate baseball forecasts out there. Highly recommended. Before we get into the Q/A, check out Kevin’s list from last year here, as well as the Q/A he did for the site last year. Now that we’ve set it up, here is the latest buzz from Kevin…
