Lehigh Valley Report

An abridged version of the weekly Lehigh Valley report with only the opener, to report on. The ‘Pigs got off to a rough start and a rougher end in their 11-3 opening night loss to Scranton.  The night began with a JJ Furmaniak error leading to two unearned runs for the Yanks in the first, before Kyle Kendrick settled down to go four innings yielding only the two unearned runs on four hits.  He walked three and struck out one.  Kendrick threw 82 pitches, 50 for strikes and was pitching out of trouble for most of his four innings.  The ‘Pigs got back into the game in the second inning on an RBI single by Furmaniak, who had three hits on the night.  Pablo Ozuna followed that up with a two run single in the fourth inning, giving the ‘Pigs a short lived 3-2 lead.  The floodgates opened in the fifth inning with Dave Borkowski (0-1) giving up two runs, and then John Ennis getting rocked in the 6th giving up five more.  Lehigh Valley was unable to put anything together after that point and dittoed their opening day loss to the Yankees last year.

Pig Points

A couple of points to clarify the IronPigs roster in light of earlier predictions:

–Neither Joe Bisnius nor Antonio Bastardo are on the ‘Pig opening day roster.  Both are starting the year in the Reading bullpen.

New International Players In Spring Training – 2009

Each year the Phillies bring a host of new International players to spring training, mostly from their complex league teams in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.  This article will summarize some notes on all the new players that have not yet made their debuts in U.S.-based minor leagues.  Some of these players may get sent back to the DSL or VSL leagues to start the season, though most of them usually end up on a GCL roster.  The list of players is based on the minor league work groups posted here on PhuturePhillies.  It is possible there are a few others in camp that were not on that initial list of workgroups. Iron Pigs Bullpen Report

Look for the ‘Pigs bullpen to be almost completely revamped from the Pen of last year, with a number of free agent signings that have Major League experience.  Although probably almost totally devoid of any big time prospects, the Lehigh Valley bullpen should provide the Phillies with some reliable depth if any of the relievers on the big club are down for a significant period of time. Iron Pigs Preview

As I flip my calendar to February, I begin chomping at the bit for the arrival of pitchers and catchers, so, with that comes an early look at what to expect in the Lehigh Valley next year.  A huge turnover on the roster will lead to what many believe will be a very exciting team, filled with a combination of prospects and proven AAA players. I went through all of the website files and created an all-time roster of players and coaches for the Clearwater Threshers. I am missing photos of some players (mostly short-timers) and would appreciate the input of you, the faithful Phuture Phillies public help in completeing this project, and I hope that James the Phuture Philles master will indulge my request.

If you have a photo of a missing player, or can report an omission to the all-time roster I would appreciate your feedback. Continue reading Clearwater Threshers All-Time Roster
