Hey all. As I mentioned when the season was kicking off, I’m going to come off the bench and write the Lakewood report this year. I’ve been waiting to try and accumulate some data to look at, and going forward I anticipate doing this every week or every other week, not sure what day of the week, but that’s a minor detail. I’m going to give a statistical overview, and then some thoughts on the squad and pass along any tidbits I can find. So far, I haven’t done much digging on our guys there, simply because its only been a few weeks. But I hope to have more on that as the season progresses. So, let’s get after it.

Clearwater Threshers Report (4/18-4/24)
Recap: The Threshers went 3 and 3 on the week before taking Easter Sunday off. They currently sit in second place in the FSL North, two games behind the Daytona Cubs. Given the daily posting of boxscores here, I won’t rehash game-by-game highlights, but two excellent starts by Jon Pettibone bookended the week, the other outings by the heralded starting staff ranged from pretty decent (Julio Rodriguez) to pretty poor (Trevor May) and the offense got back (when he wasn’t getting himself tossed from games for arguing third strikes). On to the stats: Continue reading Clearwater Threshers Report (4/18-4/24)
Lehigh Valley Report 21 April 2011
In light of the daily box score update, I think it may make some sense to do away with daily game summaries and attempt to focus the weekly updates on how particular players have been performing along with general team updates. So, along those lines each week I will update half of the team. Infielders, catchers and starters one week and then outfielders and relievers the next. That should allow a constant continuing picture of what we have at the AAA level. Look for that on Thursday or Friday each week. I hope to combine that with occasional additional features and player interviews throughout the season. Continue reading Lehigh Valley Report 21 April 2011
Clearwater Threshers Report–4/18/11
Recap: The Threshers went 3-4 on the week, dropping 2 of 3 to Daytona (Cubs), taking 2 of 3 from Brevard County (Brewers), then losing the opener of another series with Daytona. Clearwater sits at 7-4, a game out of first in the FSL North. The most notable news out of Clearwater has been the loss of Brody Colvin and Jonathan Singleton. Colvin was placed on the DL with a back injury and Singleton sat out all week with a left arm injury. He made it back into Sunday’s game, but after a caught stealing while he was batting, he didn’t take the field. Continue reading Clearwater Threshers Report–4/18/11
AAA Weekend Update 17 April 2011
Friday–Lehigh Valley went back over .500 with a 9-4 victory over Rochester, taking two out of three from the RedWings. The ‘Pigs fell behind early on a series of miscues, but bounced back with two runs in the fourth when two runs scored on back to back sac flies by Josh Barfield and Matt Miller. The ‘Pigs put up a four spot in the 7th, when Rochester got very sloppy. The big blow in an inning that featured errors, wild pitches and run scoring bunt singles was a two run single by Ronnie Belliard. Lehigh Valley tacked on three more in the 8th, two of them coming on an RBI double by Delwyn Young. Nate Bump started and went 4 innings giving up 4 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits. Drew Carpenter picked up the win in relief, pitching three hitless innings. A big night at the plate for Kevin Frandsen, who had 3 hits. Continue reading AAA Weekend Update 17 April 2011
Reading Phils Update 4/17
The R-Phils are off to a solid 6-3 start after a week and a half of playing. They stand second in the Eastern Division, a game behind New Britain, and a game in front of New Hampshire. They are 5-2 on the road, including a sweep of previously front-running New Hampshire, and 1-1 at home. The offense has been strong, averaging 5.8 runs/game, while the pitching has held up its end as well, allowing only 3.3 runs. The offense has been a bit feast-or-famine, or they’d be a game or two better. They’ve been shut out twice, and scored 13 runs twice.
Lehigh Valley Weekly Report 14 April 2011
Lehigh Valley went 3-3 during their first week of the 2011 season which gives some semblance of hope for a winning team after dismal starts in their first three seasons. Generally look for Lehigh Valley weekly reports to come out on Thursday, with a look at league leaders beginning next week. Continue reading Lehigh Valley Weekly Report 14 April 2011
Clearwater Threshers Report–4/11/11
Well, this has been a fun start. Four straight wins to start the season–pounding a good major league starter en route to a 10-1 win in the opener, outpitching Dunedin in the next two, then a huge comeback win on the strength of 7th inning bombs from Leandro Castro and Kyle Lafrenz. Lots of positives, a few negatives, and a need to remember we’re only four games into the season. Continue reading Clearwater Threshers Report–4/11/11
AAA Weekend Update 10 April 2011
Game Summaries: 4/7–Lehigh Valley moved over .500 (1-0) for the first time in team history with a 7-2 victory over visiting Scranton. The Ryne Sandberg era began with a bang bringing with it a new brand of baseball in Allentown, with it being made clear early that the team will be aggressive. Starter Vance Worley was dominant, going six shutout innings, allowing just 4 hits, while walking one and striking out 9. Lehigh Valley put up a three spot in the first inning on RBI singles by Delwyn Young and Brandon Moss. The ‘Pigs tacked on three more in the 5th on a solo homer by Delwyn Young and a two run blast by Jeff Larish. Brandon Moss had a big day at the plate, while Mike Stutes was very impressive in relief, striking out three of the four hitters he faced. Continue reading AAA Weekend Update 10 April 2011
