2019 Prospect Discussion, 2 of … ; Nicoly Pina

This is an open format for any minor league prospect you want to discuss.  However, today’s subject is Nicoly Pina.  I will continue on an irregular schedule for as long as I stay interested.  This will be mostly about low-level prospects, but could include anyone I saw last season.  If you have someone in particular you want to hear about, put the name in the comments section.  If I’ve seen enough to warrant a post, I’ll strongly consider it.

Nicoly Pina was signed by the Phillies as an international free agent on May 3, 2018 out of the Domincan Republic. Continue reading 2019 Prospect Discussion, 2 of … ; Nicoly Pina

Phillies Hire Second Yankee in a Week, More to Come?

The Phillies hired Joe Girardi as their manager today.  Earlier this week, they announced the hiring of Brian Barber as their Director of Amateur Scouting.  Both have in common that their most recent MLB employer was the New York Yankees.

Joe Girardi was drafted by the Chicago Cubs as a catcher in the fifth round of the 1986 Amateur Draft out of Northwestern University. Continue reading Phillies Hire Second Yankee in a Week, More to Come?

Here’s an open discussion about some of the Phillies’ minor league prospects I saw this season.  Phillies’ talk and other non-prospect discussion should remain in the Open Discussion.

Fourth Annual Phillies Minor League Digest

Pardon this self promotion.  The “Fourth Annual Phillies Minor League Digest” is available on Amazon.  My friend and companion at the Carpenter Complex and Spectrum Field, Steve Potter, authors the digest and solicits participation from writers, photographers, and bloggers who follow the Phillies affiliates.  I provided the chapters on the Clearwater Threshers and the Gulf Coast League. Open Discussion: Week of October 14th

The decision has been made to sever ties with manager Kapler and continue with the front office intact and most of Kapler’s staff in place.  Hopefully, we can start to focus on baseball and not suffer too much angst during the hunt for a new manager.  Based on comments during Friday’s news conference, I expect it to be a lengthy process.  In other news … Continue reading Open Discussion: Week of October 14th

Survey Says …

Well, I think this has run long enough.  The results aren’t going to change much if I let the polling to run any longer.  The response in all three polls was similar.  Before a hundred votes were cast, the “Go” response for all three was over 60%.  Around 200, the percentages held.  Saturday, with over 350 votes cast, Klentak’s has dipped below 60%, but MacPhail and Kapler are still over 60%.
