Last night we had two wins, two losses, a suspended game, and a postponement.  Clearwater lost big.  Lehigh Valley lost and had their second game suspended with them trailing.  Reading won a rain-shortened game that had a two-plus-hour delay.  And Jersey Shore picked up a win and a postponement. Remember the”Everybody hits!” guy from TV telecasts?  Well, the tag line from Wednesday’s game could be, “Everybody loses”.  There were three, one-run losses for Lehigh Valley, Reading, and Jersey Shore; and two routs of Clearwater and the FCL Phillies. Oh yeah, the parent club also imploded, too.

Clearwater played last night after a late afternoon storm blew through the area.  The Threshers beat Daytona, 5-2, as Mick Abel picked up his first professional win.  He dominated the Tortugas after issuing a leadoff walk to start the game.  The 19-year-old righty pitched a career-high five innings and allowed no hits. Clearwater was scheduled to play two games against Daytona Friday, and our Florida weather complied, shunting bad weather to either side of our area.  The first game was a pitchers’ battle with the Threshers coming out on top, 1-0.  The second game, after a short delay to make sure that lightning would not be a problem, also featured strong pitching in a 2-1 Threshers’ loss.  The Threshers are now 23-23 and in fourth place in their division.
