Three Phillies make the SAL Top 20
BA continues with their league Top 20’s, and the Phillies end up with 3 guys on the list; Gose (13th), D’Arnaud (17th) and May (19th). The list is here. Again, the scouting reports are subscription only, do not post them here.
The SAL is one of the biggest leagues in the minors, so for the Phillies to grab 3 guys is mildly impressive.
Around the System (3B)
The Phillies hold a $5,000,000 club option on Pedro Feliz for next season which they would be fools to not pick up, based on both his production and the available major league ready talent (none)in the system currently. Read about the talent below the fold. Continue reading Around the System (3B)
New York Penn League Top 20
Baseball America came out with their top 20 prospects in the New York Penn League and three Phils prospects made the list. At #4 is Catcher Sebastian Valle, #11 is 3B Anthony Hewitt and at #16 is OF Leandro Castro. Baseball America does have scouting reports attached to each player, however, that is reserved for their pay site.
Feel free to discuss.
Around the System (SS)
Still no immediate need in Philadelphia with Jimmy Rollins signed for 2010 and the Phils holding a 2011 team option for $8.5 million that I would expect them to pick up. Continue reading Around the System (SS)
Kyle Drabek’s role in 2010
I’m going to write more about Drabek when I do my Top 30, but thats not for a while, and I was thinking about what should happen with Drabek next year, so I wanted to throw this out there. Everyone knows at this point that an elite starter is worth more than an elite reliever when you’re talking about value. And I think its pretty much a given that Drabek’s long term future is as a starting pitcher. But for 2010, I think it makes a world of sense to use Drabek in the ML pen from Day 1. Check below for my reasoning…
Around the System (2B)
With Chase Utley signed through the 2013 season, this again is not an area of great concern for the Phils, however, they surely need to upgrade their bench up the middle of the infield. Eric Bruntlett simply will not cut it, especially as both Utley and Rollins need some time off as their careers march on. See below the fold for the review of second baseman in the system. 4 Phillies in the GCL Top 20
Its that time, Baseball America lists its top 20 prospects from each US domestic league. The Phillies placed 4 guys in the GCL top 20; Jarred Cosart (4), Jon Singleton (7), Domingo Santana (10) and Jonathon Villar (18). Its notable that Cosart was ranked the top pitching prospect in the league, a very promising sign. Please do not post the full scouting reports/blurbs here. Thanks.
Around the System (First Base)
With Ryan Howard signed through the 2011 season, there isn’t an immediate need at first base but the lack of possibility should be reason for concern as next years draft roles around. See below the fold for the details: Continue reading Around the System (First Base)
