Lehigh Valley

Andy Tracy, 36, 301 AB’s; .282/.392/.502; 14 HR 53 RBI; .310 vs. LH, .274 vs. RH, .282 with RISP, .257 in July; 15% bb rate, 23% k rate. 67 games at 1B, 5 errors (.991); 8.33 R/F. Tracy has struggled with shoulder problems most of the season and it has shown in his recent power numbers.  Still consistent however.

Neil Sellers, 28, 330 AB’s; .258/.326/.355; 3HR 31 RBI; .299 vs. LH, .255 vs. RH, .241 with RISP, .253 in July, 9% bb rate, 18% k rate. 32 games at 1B with 1 error (.996); 8.72 R/F. 48 games at 3B with 2 errors (.983), 2.38 R/F. The disappointment with Sellers has been his power numbers which have dropped precipitously since his AA days.  His fielding, which was questioned in years past, has been serviceable. Domonic Brown to the Majors

It was under different circumstances than most expected, but the name most believe is currently the #1 prospect in baseball, Domonic Brown, received the much-anticipated call to the majors this afternoon as Shane Victorino was placed on the DL with an oblique strain.

Brown, 23, was hitting .346/.390/.561 in 107 AB’s with AAA Lehigh Valley.  He had 5 HR and 21 RBI to go along with 5 SB in 6 attempts. Overall on the year, Brown has hit .327/.391/.589 with 20HR and 68 RBI in 343 AB’s.  Additionally, he has stolen 17 bases in 24 attempts. Some notes

* Trevor May struck out 14 in 7 innings, but more importantly, 0 BB. We knew he could strike out A ball hitters, the control is the big question. Good start.
* Singleton 3/5 and now up to .319 and Leandro Castro is back off the DL.
* Gose drew his 32nd BB tonight. He had 35 all of last season.
* Rizzotti went 5/5 in the first game with 2 doubles (21), 1/2 with a BB in the second game. Up to .364/.443/.653 in 239 AB.
* JC Ramirez went 6 IP – 2 ER – 5 H – 1 BB – 5 K
* Worley with a solid AAA debut: 6 IP – 0 ER – 5 H – 1 BB – 7 K
* Mathieson got torched: 0.1 IP – 4 ER – 3 H – 0 BB – 1 K

* Brody Colvin’s streak of starts without an earned run extends to 4. 1.37 ERA in his last 59 IP, with a 50/16 K to BB rate and 1.46 GB to FB.
* Singleton was 2/3 in the 2nd game, with a walk, up to .313 again.
* Julio Rodriguez with 10 K in 6 IP. 2.81 ERA in 51.1 IP with 58 K and 25 BB. Still just 19.
* Rough night for Schwim, his defense didn’t help.

Michael Schwimer was kind enough to give me a few minutes of his time prior to the Lehigh Valley game on Sunday evening, one day after he pitched 2.2 scoreless against Norfolk, extending his scoreless to streak to six outings since his promotion from AA Reading.  Here is what he had to say about a number of issues…

On his most recent outing..” I felt good…pitches were good, the fastball had good late life, the slider was biting pretty good, my change I could throw whenever I wanted to, late in counts and had a good tail.  Important for me on the change up is the location rather than the movement…I throw a four seam change so it comes out like a four seam fastball…I go for location and I go for speed differentiation.” Continue reading Michael Schwimer Interview →

Justin Beal, 24, Williamsport: 4 games, 1-1 with a 1.93 ERA, 4.2 IP 1BB 1K; Lakewood: 8 games, 2-1 with a 2.51 ERA; 14.1 IP 14H 5BB 10K, .280 opp. avg. The Phils 28th round pick in the ’09 draft has done enough to stick around and turn a head or two.
