Season Predictions

Last year’s predictions went pretty well so I thought I would give it another try this year.  These predictions are based purely on opinion, and have no guarantee of coming true.

1. Both Maikel Franco and Jesse Biddle do not exhaust their prospect eligibility.  Both are not called up until rosters expand.  Biddle puts up good numbers but is blocked in the major league level and left to make adjustments in AAA.

2.  Yoel Mecias comes back healthy and is a borderline Top 5 prospect in the system.  He is promoted to Clearwater after dominating Lakewood for a few starts.

3. Roman Quinn plays SS in Clearwater when he is back on the field, the Phillies begin experimenting with him at 2B after J.P. Crawford is promoted at the beginning of August. Continue reading Season Predictions

Positional Preview: Relief Pitchers

For sanity’s sake I have not included all relievers in the system.  For the most part, low minors relievers are not prospects unless they move very quickly or have elite stuff.  Additionally it is hard to tell whether a pitcher is actually a starter or a reliever.

General Discussion – Week of 3-31-2014 – Absolutely Nothing Interesting Happening Today Edition

Boy, we’re really going to struggle to find stuff to talk about this week, I think.

Discuss. I mean, if you can think of anything. Good luck with that.

Opening Day Roster By the Numbers

Today is Opening Day if you didn’t realize.  I thought I would break down the opening day 40 man roster into some fun graphs, on player acquisition.  I chose to use the 40 man roster so that I could encompass a team with a lot of DL spots used and plenty of flex in its roster.

So lets start off with where each of the players came from.  This is how they first came into major league baseball, regardless of how the Phillies acquired them. Continue reading Opening Day Roster By the Numbers

Top 10 Under 25

Top prospect lists do a good job of showing the minor league talent in an organization. However, the cut off can arbitrarily cut off players who have graduated, but are important part of the organization’s young core. Given the small sample size nature of the spring I am not altering my Top 30 for this list.

So here is the list:

1. Maikel Franco
2. Jesse Biddle
3. J.P. Crawford Continue reading Top 10 Under 25
