Box Score Recap – 5/1/2016

Lehigh Valley (12-10) Postponed, rain.  David Buchanan (0-1, 4.58 ERA) tomorrow against the Pawtucket Red Sox.

Reading (14-9) Lost to Portland 7-6.  The bull pen blew a 5-3 lead in the ninth, and a 6-5 lead in the tenth.  Rhys Hoskins homered.

  • Ramos – 2.0 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 1 HBP.  Blown Save.
  • Bleich – 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K. Blown Save and Loss.
  • 4 runs were unearned, errors by Pinto, Hoskins, Brown, and Mora.
  • Quinn (.244) went 2-4 with a triple, 2 BB, and an RBI.
  • Marrero (.263) went 2-3 with 2 doubles, 3 BB, and an RBI.
  • Hoskins (.256) went 1-5 with a HR (5) , BB, and RBI.
  • Cozens (.259) went 2-4with a BB, RBI, and SB (6).
  • Valentin (1) and Quinn (3) were CS.
  • Moore (.167) went 0-3 with a BB and 3 K.
  • Jake Fox was the starting catcher.

Clearwater (16-8) Beat Lakeland 4-2.  Tyler Viza struck out a career-high 11 batters in 6.1, one-run innings.  Malquin Canelo belted his first home run.

  • Viza – 6.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 11 K, 91 pitches, 59 strikes, FB 90-92, t93, 94 mph.
  • Only 12 of 22 first pitch strikes (54.5%).
  • Victor Arano inherited 2 runners with one out and struck out 2 batters.
  • He benefited from a rarely called automatic strike that ended the inning.  The batter stepped out of the box, and didn’t return when directed by the umpire.
  • Joely Rodriguez also stranded 2 inherited runners.
  • Alexis Rivero earned his second save but gave up a lead off HR in the ninth.
  • Kingery (.275) went 2-4 with an RBI and SB7).
  • Sandberg (.308) went 2-4.
  • Tocci stole his fourth base.
  • Canelo (.234) went 2-3 with a HR (1) and RBI.
  • Tocci started in RF, Rodriguez in CF.
  • Rodriguez left the game during his at bat, Tocci moved to CF, Sandberg to RF, and Campbell entered the game and played LF.

Lakewood (6-16) Postponed, rain.  Double header tomorrow, Jose Taveras (0-1, 1.72) in game one and Franklyn Kilome (0-3, 15.83) in game two.

Falter and Ortiz Lead de Armas’ Team to XST Win; April 29, 2016

The Phillies traveled to the Blue Jays Spring Training Complex to play a pair of XST games today.  Bailey Falter started for Coach Roly de Armas and provided three solid, shutout innings.  Enger Jimenez had a couple RBIs.  And Jhailyn Ortiz picked up a couple of outfield assists as the Phillies won 5-1. Box Score Recap – 4/28/2016

Lehigh Valley (11-9) No game scheduled.  Mark Appel (3-0, 1.62 ERA) is scheduled to start Friday.

Reading (13-7) No Game scheduled.  Alec Asher (1-2, 3.20 ERA) is scheduled to start Friday.

Clearwater (15-6) Beat Daytona and took two of three from the Tortugas.  The Threshers received five solid innings from John Richy in his first start after coming off the DL.  Cord Sandberg provided an early lead with his first home run of the season.  The Threshers broke a 1-1 tie with 4 runs in the sixth, making Richy the eventual game winner. Box Score Recap – 4/26/2016

Terrible trend last night among the affiliates.  Everybody found a way to lose late.  Lehigh Valley and Clearwater scored late only to lose in walk offs.  Reading gave up late runs after forging a tie to lose.  And Lakewood blew a lead late and lost in extra innings.  But the Phillies beat that Nats, so there’s that.

Lehigh Valley (10-9) Tied the game in the top of the ninth only to lose 4-3 in ten innings to Scranton.  Reinier Roibal got the start in a “bull pen game” when Adam Morgan’s start was skipped.  Andrew Knapp and Taylor Featherston hit home runs.   Continue reading Box Score Recap – 4/26/2016

Lehigh Valley Report

With a 5-3 win over Pawtucket on Sunday, Lehigh Valley improved to 5-1, two thirds of the way through their nine game road trip.  The road trip continues with a three game series in Scranton, before returning home for a weekend series against Buffalo. At 10-7, the ‘Pigs are in first place of the Northern Division of the International League.  After starting the year 2-5, the ‘Pigs have won 8 of their last 10 games.

News and Notes: Edward Mujica has five consecutive saves, throwing 6.1 innings, without yielding an earned run during that span.
