Threshers Recap – 8/7/2019

Clearwater (22-27, 58-57)   beat Dunedin, 3-1.  Andrew Brown (3-6, 6.72) posted a “quality start” going six, one-run innings.  He gave up 3 hits, walked one, and struck out six.  It was his first win since May 9th and best performance since posting similar numbers in a five inning appearance back on June 26th.  Tyler Carr (1.77) went 1.1 scoreless innings.  Zach Warren came in to get the final two outs in the eighth.  After a 90+ minute delay, Michael Gomez (3.27) struck out two in a perfect ninth for his first save. Threshers Recap – 8/6/2019

Clearwater (21-27, 57-57)   beat Dunedin, 5-1.  Jose Taveras was imported from Pennsylvania to provide a start for the Threshers.  Taveras stymied the Blue Jays batters for most of his seven innings.  He relied on command to keep the young Dunedin hitters off balance with his sub-90 stuff.  He scattered six hits, walked a batter, and struck out three.  The only run came on a solo HR with two outs in the seventh.  Austin Ross pitched two scoreless innings for his 4th save. Threshers Recap – 8/5/2019

Just a quick note.  The Phillies fielded five home grown players last night in Arizona – 1B Hoskins, 2B Hernandez, 3B Kingery, LF Haseley, and CF Quinn.  The four from elsewhere were winning pitcher Velasquez, his battery mate Realmuto, SS Segura, and RF Harper.

The GCL Phillies East spun a no hitter using 5 different pitchers – Jonas De La Cruz (2nd rehab appearance), Starlyn Castillo (3rd appearance), Engel Estevez (2nd appearance), Cameron Beauchamp (debut), and Brendan Bell (the veteran making his 8th appearance). They had a 12.1 combined innings among them before this game. Continue reading Threshers Recap – 8/5/2019

Threshers Recap – 8/4/2019

Clearwater (20-26, 56-56)  lost to Tampa, 3-2.  Kyle Glogoski pitched five solid innings.  He allowed six hits, a run on a solo HR, no walks, and two strike outs.  Zach Warren chipped in with two shutout innings.  Tyler Carr gave up his first runs in two weeks to blow the save and take the loss.  The Threshers converted sac flies by Nick Matera and Daniel Brito into a tenuous 2-1 lead.  But their impotent offense could manage just one extra base hit, Matt Vierling’s 19th double, among their 8 hits.  And, went 0-7 with RISP. Threshers Recap – 8/3/2019

Clearwater (20-25, 56-55)  lost to Tampa, 12-5.

The Threshers found themselves trailing when rehabbing Jerad Eickhoff couldn’t find the strike zone, nor his FB velocity.  He threw 23 pitches, 12 for strikes, hit a batter, walked a batter, touched 91 once, 90 once, 89 twice, 88 once.  He was only effective with his curve ball.  Thankfully, he was yanked after allowing only one run. Threshers Recap – 8/1/2019

I started going to the Carpenter Complex in 2012.  Dylan Cozens is a player I have followed since that first summer.  For the first time since that summer, Cozens will not be on one of our affiliated rosters.  Dylan’s not the first player I have followed who has been released, but he was among the longest tenured.  The only player remaining with the organization from his draft class, the Class of 2012, is Drew Anderson.
