Phillies sign Dominican LHP Franklyn Zavala for $330K

Jim Salisbury has the scoop on twitter. 6’4 LHP. Fits the mold for the Phillies in terms of the money they like to spend. Should be interesting, and I’ll post more details as they are available.

JC Ramirez had labrum surgery last week

This is slightly old news now, a few days anyway, and it might have been mentioned in the comments somewhere, but I wanted to put a post up anyway.

Update –> Reading comprehension FAIL on my part. Hip labrum surgery. He’ll be back by ST. Should be fine. False alarm. Sorry.

A review of my Top 30 prospects for 2010

Instead of waiting to look back at my Top 30 until next season’s top 30, I figured I’d devote some substantial words to my list. My goal is to try and figure out where I was right on guys, where I was wrong, and identify if my philosophies as a whole have a blind spot, or if things were simply unforeseeable last winter. I’m going to refrain from making too many 2011 slanting comments, I’m not doing a preliminary top 30 now, this is just to look back at my rankings and figure out how good/bad they were. Check below for more.

Vance Worley live game log

Hi all. I figured that it would be interesting to do a live blog of Vance Worley’s start today, his first MLB start. We got a very brief glimpse of Worley a while back, as he pitched 1 inning in relief, but we’ll get a chance to see more of what he can do today in his first big league start. Worley has been solid this season at AA/AAA, logging 158 IP with a 3.36 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. His 6.78 K/9 isn’t eye opening, but its passable, and he’s limited his walks, with a solid 2.62 BB/9 rate. Check below the fold to find out what I’ll be watching for.

Sunday notes column

Hi. I wanted to write a notes column, because I haven’t done one of these in a while, and because I felt like I really had to get back to writing more regularly. The last month or so has been a bit turbulent, and because of that, I haven’t been able to devote as much time to the site as I wished I could Things are beginning to get back to normal, so I hope to be able to put in a better shift, but I wanted to thank Gregg and everyone else who regularly contributes here for picking up the slack as I’ve veered off course. I’m not going to do any fancy formatting for this post, I’m just going to give you some thoughts as we wind down the minor league season.

August 25th Discussion

Short on time and resources today, but wanted to open a new post to discuss anything on your mind with regard to Phillies prospects. I didn’t even have time to look at last night’s box scores, if there were any. If someone wants to edit this post with box scores, that would be fantastic. Thanks
