And the prospect nobody watches or seems to notice, Otto Kemp, continues to impress. I know he’s 24, but he’s doing what you’d want a player that age to do in the minors, dominate and keep moving up levels. He’s on the older side, but he’s not too old yet. We’ll really see what he has next year when he likely moves to AAA, but there definitely might be something there.

What’s his possible role for the Phillies? The next Edmundo Sosa?

I don’t think so – it’s more like a corner infielder/corner outfielder bench type of role. Sometimes those guys develop into regulars.

If Kemp keeps hitting, he’s going to get a shot. He’ll be 25 next month and he should be in ST looking to impress. There’s an outside chance he could grab a bench spot, but he’ll need to beat out Wilson and Clemens. Worse case, he starts the year at Lehigh.

I’d be very surprised if he won a spot out of ST. He started this year in Clearwater and I think he needs at least 200 ABs in AAA before we know what he might be. But it’s fun to watch undrafted guys like Kemp and Anthony rise through the system. Huge kudos to the scouting and development departments.

Assume Phillies will shut down Christian McGowan for the season with concerns over his right shoulder. Hopefully imaging will show no significant damage.

Pan still looking great, I wonder if he might go the AFL to add a few more innings and to go against some good hitters. He’ll start next season at Reading but a good start to the year could get him close to a debut next year.

I don’t have velocity readings from high A ball, but he was sitting in the high 90s at Clearwater. There’s a part of me that thinks the team intentionally limited his exposure before the trade deadline and that may not have been a bad idea. To me, he’s a top 15 prospect or, if not, very close to that.

Even though Pan will be 22 next month, he’s only pitched 16 innings total at JS. Due to his injury, he’s only pitched 18 innings this season. I think he needs to start at JS, stay healthy, and accumulate innings as a starter. Get him up to 30+ innings at JS, then promote him to Reading. He needs to get close to 100 innings for 2025. That hand injury pretty much wiped out 1 season of development.

I think it might depend on the AFL results, assuming they send him. I’m not sure if he’s a SP long term but they’ll certainly start him next year initially to get more innings from him.

Normally pitchers in the AFL will not get more than 20/25 total innings, most pitchers less. However, as limited as the work load will be there in Arizona, he definitely will get good exposure to virtually ready MLB hitters.

Murray, Pan’s current trajectory would be as a bulk reliever. However, I don’t think the Phillies have ruled out starting. And by ruled out, I mean I don’t think they’ve reached a consensus among the development staff regarding his future. I know Pan would rather start. In either case, he would need to ramp up innings. Becoming a starter would likely push any debut back until sometime during 2026 or later.
And, yes, I think he could be on the short list for AFL consideration.

he has upper 90’s I think they will stretch him out and work in as a starter next year. Hope he goes onto the AFL this Fall
