Box Score Recap (5/26/24)

Lehigh Valley lost on just two hits.  Reading won behind Caleb Rickett’s 3 RBI.  Jersey Shore won allowing 3 hits and getting three perfect innings from the bullpen.  Clearwater won their fifth in a row.  The FCL Phillies don’t play on Sundays.

Lehigh Valley (19-30) lost to Rochester, 7-2.  Tyler Phillips pitched 4.2 innings and gave up 6 runs on 11 hits and 2 walks.  Andrew Bellatti stranded 2 inherited runners retiring all 4 batters he faced.  Max Lazar pitched a scoreless inning allowing one hit.  Zac Houston pitched a perfect frame.  Nick Nelson pitched an inning and gave up a run on a hit and a walk. 

The IronPigs scored their two runs in the sixth inning when already trailing 6-0 on a 2-run HR by David Dahl (8).  They only had 2 hits.  Cal Stevenson had the other.  On the positive side, they batted .333 with runners in scoring position (1-3).

Reading (20-25) beat Binghamton, 3-2.  Kolby Allard showed some improvement over his last outing.  He pitched three solid innings allowing a run on 2 hits and no walks.  He struck out three.  Efrain Contreras pitched four innings and gave up one run on 2 hits and a walk.  He struck out eight.  Allard and Contreras had each given up a solo HR.  Tyler McKay pitched one scoreless inning allowing a hit and striking out two.  Tommy McCollum got his fifth save pitching a scoreless inning allowing a hit and striking out two.

Reading scored a run in the first inning on an RBI double by Caleb Ricketts.  They took ther lead for good with 2 runs in the fifth on a 2-run HR (1) by Ricketts.

Braden Fausnaught pitched six innings allowing one run on 3 hits and 2 walks.  He struck out five.  Andrew Walling tossed a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout.  Daniel Harper tossed a 1-2-3 inning with 2 strikeouts.  Charles King closed out the game with a 1-2-3 inning and 2 strikeouts.

The BlueClaws scored a run in the third on solo HR (3) by Troy Sheffler.  They exploded for 10 runs in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk by Cade Fergus, a 2-run double by William Bergolla, a balk, a wild pitch, an RBI single by Erick Brito, a 2-run HR (2) by Otto Kemp, and a 2-run single by Fergus.

Clearwater (32-13) beat St. Lucie, 9-4.  It was their fifth win in a row and another series win.  Braydon Tucker pitched five innings allowing one run on 7 hits.  He walked none and struck out six.  Jaydenn Estanista pitched one inning and gave up 3 runs on 1 hit and 3 walks.  Chase Hopewell pitched two scoreless innings allowing 2 hits.  Brandon Beckel pitched a 1-2-3 inning striking out two.

The Threshers scored 3 runs in the first inning on a wild pitch, sac fly by Dakota Kotowski, and an RBI ground-rule double by Jordan Viars.  They scored a run in the second on an RBI single by Trent Farquhar.  They scored 2 runs in the sixth on a sac fly by Nikau Pouaka-Grego and a solo HR (3) by Bryson Ware.  They added an insurance in the seventh on a sac fly by Raylin Heredia.  They tacked on 2 more runs in the ninth on RBI singles by Ware and Farquhar.

  2. One more arm; one more bat. A GM like Dombrowski should have that on his mind. Help from within the organization or from outside Not to win the division because they may well have the pieces for that. But to win all the marbles.

    The Phils don’t go head to head with he Dodgers and Yankees till July. That doesn’t leave a lot of tim for moves, for patching holes if the Phils’ dominance doesn’t extend beyond the calibre of teams they’ve played till now.

    Is there help forthcoming from the 40-man roster beyond what’s on display with the big team? David Dahl? Michael Mercado? Do they tread water until Trea returns? Or wait till July?
