Walker Transactions Announced

The Phillies officially announced the signing of RHP Taijuan Walker

To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Tayler Scott was designated for assignment.

The Phillies reached an agreement with Walker during the winter meetings.  Walker is coming off two 29-start seasons with the Mets.  He averaged 158 innings, a 3.98 ERA, and a 99 ERA+.  His numbers were better in his walk year – 3.49 ERA and 110 ERA+.

Tayler Scott was claimed from the Padres in September and made 4 appearances for 3.0 innings with the IronPigs and had a not-so-great 15.00 ERA in the small sample.

On December 10th, The Phillies bolstered their catcher corps before spring training with the signing of C Max McDowell to a minor league contract.  McDowell was assigned to Reading on the 15th.

And finally, local boy Nick Ward was signed to a minor league contract today.  Ward was invited to play in Australia at the suggestion of a friend of mine.  Nick has taken advantage of the opportunity to earn the offer from the Phillies.  He is leading the Austrian Baseball League or among the league leaders in most offensive categories.  Stateside he is under contract to Washington in the Frontier League and the Phillies bought him out of the contract to sign him.  He went to Unionville HS and West Chester University.

  1. No tears lost for Taylor Scott being dropped. Probably 10 pitchers in our minor leagues could have the same stats.
