  1. Hard not to get excited by Boyd. Not sure how he lasted to the 11th round.
Miller hasn’t had a good outing at AAA yet, not good.
Painter gave up a triple and a homer in the 7th inning after six more shutout innings. He had another great outing before he ran out of gas.

    1. Jim Callis had this say lst month after the Phillies drafted him.

      Jim Callis
11th-rder Emaarion Boyd signs with @Phillies for $647,500 ($522,500 counts vs pool) Mississippi HS OF,
….one of fastest players in MLBDraft,…… impressed with hitting ability on showcase circuit last summer. Northwest Mississippi CC recruit.

      1. SSS, but the 2022 draft has been performing well. Rao and Kerking are firing zeroes. Ricketts has been hitting. McFarlane had a nice start. Crawford is doing what he needs to do. Boyd has been the biggest surprise by far. Boyd has been hitting and hasn’t stopped.

Again, if we get one starter out of this draft (I don’t really care who it is), the Phillies have done their job.

    2. Painter giving up a triple and HR in the 7th was actually a good thing. He needed to see that AA is not as easy as he’s making it out to be. Heck, he’s making this whole minor league season look easy. Going up 2 levels, his SO rate has decreased (which is normal) but his walk rate has drastically decreased which is absurd. I don’t think I’ve seen that before. At age 19, he’s doing some crazy things.

      1. onlyl walk last night was to leadoff hitter (who he then picked off) and he thought he got squeezed on a couple of the calls on that at bat. don’t remember any three ball counts the rest of the way.

  2. Johan Rojas over the last 13 games…..hitting .314
And over the last three months .263, were as in April and May together, he was below the Mendoza line.

  3. I really had high hopes for Jamari Baylor. Sick athlete. Twitchy. I guess that he can’t hit breaking balls because his minor league K rate is terrible. He’s already 22 and still in Low A. Baseball is so hard. Drafting 18yo kids is such a crap shoot.

    1. It’s too bad the team hasn’t had as much success with raw hitters as they have with raw pitchers. Baylor seemed like he wasn’t going to work out as soon as he started playing games. On a brighter note, it seems like they might have something with Boyd.

        1. Yes AND they were bad at drafting and developing pitchers too – I’d almost say equally bad. The initial rebuild was a dumpster fire top to bottom. They lucked out that Nola and Hoskins had already been drafted.

    2. Whenever I read about a minor leaguer not able hit a breaking ball, I think of the movie Trouble With the Curve. I am guessing many of this site have seen the movie but in case anyone hasn’t I thought it was well done. Clint Eastwood is in it.

  4. Most guys that can’t hit curveball are cheating on fastballs cause hands are not fast enough. See Kingery
