Lehigh Valley won. Everybody else lost. Reading managed 4 hits including three solo HRs. Jersey Shore scored 4 runs on 5 hits. And, Clearwater was held scoreless in three extra innings before losing in thirteen.
Clearwater (21-17) lost to the Fort Myers Mussels, 7-6 in 13 innings.
This was a shame. The Threshers wasted some excellent pitching. First by Tommy McCollum in the eighth and ninth while they rallied to score a run to the game in the ninth inning. And then, three top-flight innings from Konnor Ash with the phantom runner on second base in innings ten, eleven, and twelve.
Matt Osterberg (3.15) opened with three innings and gave up one run on 5 hits and 2 walks. He struck out three. Fernando Lozano (5.51) pitched two innings and gave up two runs on four hits and a walk. Gabriel Yanez (2.41) pitched two innings and was charged with blowing the save when two unearned runs scored on 2 hits. He struck out five. Tommy McCollum (2.08) pitched two scoreless innings walking two and striking out three. Konnor Ash (1.74) pitched the first three extra innings and stranded the phantom runner in each. He did walk a batter but struck out the first eight of the nine outs he recorded. Carlos Betancourt () allowed 2 runs to score in the thirteenth on a one-out double and a two-out wild pitch, the second run being the deciding run.
The Threshers took the lead with 4 runs in the second inning on RBI singles by Arturo De Freitas, Wilfredo Flores, Mickey Moniak, and Lee Hao Yu. After Lozano and Yanez piddled away the lead, Erick Brito tied the game in the ninth with an RBI single. Wilfredo Flores supplied a two-out RBI single in the thirteenth to provide the final score.
Lee Hao Yu (.316) went 2-4 with an RBI and was walked intentionally twice in extra innings to lead off innings. An obvious “pitch-around” as the Mussels didn’t intentionally walk anyone else in extras. Arturo De Freitas (.283) went 3-5 with a walk and RBI. Wilfredo Flores (.310) went 2-6 with 2 RBI. Mickey Moniak went 1-3 with a HBP and RBI. He will probably see his next action north of Florida.
The Threshers had no XBH among their 11 hits. Yhoswar Garcia stole 3 bases (28), Leandro Pineda stole his first. Lee was caught for the sixth time this season. Garcia was out in a rundown trying to stretch a single into a triple.
Lehigh Valley (23-19) beat the Rochester Red Wings, 4-2.
Ricardo Sanchez (1-1, 5.20) pitched seven innings and gave up one run on 4 hits and a walk. He struck out four. Mark Appel (2.00) went 0.2 innings and gave up an unearned run on 2 hits. He gave way to Jonathan Hennigan (3.20) who stranded an inherited runner and walked one in 0.2 innings. Nick Duron (2.40) came in and stranded an inherited runner and notched his first save with 0.2 scoreless innings.
Lehigh Valley tied the game with a run in the fifth inning on a sac fly by Scott Kingery. They broke the tie with 3 runs in the eighth on a wild pitch and RBI singles by Darick Hall and Yairo Munoz. Matt Vierling stole his seventh base. Darick Hall stole his first two bases of the season.
Reading (17-22) lost to the Somerset Patriots, 4-1.
Bullpen game. Bubby Rossman (4.35) pitched two innings and gave up one run, 2 hits, one solo HR, and struck out three. Eric Miller (2.16) lasted 2 outs and 28 pitches giving up one run, 2 hits, and a walk. Ofreidy Gomez (2.45) stranded two inherited runners but in 1.1 innings gave up a run on two hits. Brian Marconi (3.60) pitched one inning allowed 2 base runners and struck out two.
Reading scored an unearned run in the first inning on an RBI double by Logan O’Hoppe. And then got just 3 singles the rest of the way. O’Hoppe (.304) went 1-1 as he was walked twice and hit by a pitch in his other three plate appearances.
Jersey Shore (13-24) lost to the Wilmington Blue Rocks, 7-4.
Matt Russell (0-4, 6.52) pitched five innings and gave up 4 runs, 8 hits, and one walk. He struck out three.
