Erubiel Alberto Armenta was born in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. The Phillies signed Armenta as a nineteen-year-old, international free agent in July of 2019.
Armenta was assigned to the DSL Phillies Red team but did not play during the season. Then in November, he was quietly activated from the restricted list. He lost his 2020 season to the pandemic, but pitched as a twenty-year-old for Los Mochis in the Mexican Pacific Winter League. He was Los Mochis’ second round pick in the 2019 Draft of National and Foreign Players for the Mexican Pacific League.
2020: Armenta gave up eight years to the older players in the Mexican winter league, but pitched well. He went 0-2 in 13 appearances with a 2.45 ERA. he pitched 14.2 innings, walked 10, and struck out 14. His walk-inflated WHIP was 1.159.
2021: Armenta didn’t join the Class-A Threshers until June 15th. He moved through three levels quickly. He made 4 appearances with Clearwater, 11 with High-A Jersey Shore, and one with Double-A Reading. His combined line was a 3-0 record, 16 games, 1.96 ERA (all his runs and ER were at JS), 23.0 innings pitched, 16 walks, 49 strikeouts, 104 batters faced, and a 19.2 K/9.
