Threshers Recap – 6/6/2019

Clearwater (32-28) beat Jupiter, 2-1.

This was a very well-pitched game by both staffs.  Ethan Evanko (3-1, 1.84) needed just 83 pitches (61 strikes, 73.5%) to complete seven innings.  He held the Hammerheads to one run (a solo HR in the seventh) on 3 hits and one walk.  He struck out six.  Keylan Killgore (2.14) came in and tossed two, one-hit, shutout innings to preserve the one run victory.  He struck out four and earned his sixth save. 2019 Draft Discussion: Day Three

The Phillies completed their portion of the 2019 Amateur Draft with 30 selections Wednesday, representing rounds 11 thru forty.

Overall, the Phillies selected 39 players, 10 high school players and 29 college players. The college players breakdown – 7 JUCO , 16 four-year juniors, 5 fourth year seniors, and 1 fifth year senior. Continue reading 2019 Draft Discussion: Day Three

Threshers Recap – 6/4/2019

Clearwater (31-27) walked off against Jupiter, 7-6 on Danny Mayer’s 3-run HR.

Andrew Brown (6.75) labored through a 5-run second inning and some bad luck on several balls in play, but still turned in five innings of work.  He gave up 6 runs on 8 hits, many of them of the seeing eye variety.  He walked one and struck out five.  Tyler Carr (3.48) walked one in two innings and struck out four.  Austin Ross (2-0, 3.68) gave up a hit and walked one in two innings and also struck out four. 2019 Draft Discussion: Day Two

The Phillies made eight picks during the second day of the draft.  They surprised a lot of us by taking a prep shortstop with their third round pick.  With picks four thru seven, they finally selected some pitchers.  Over the final three rounds, the Phillies took another shortstop and two corner infielders.

Through ten rounds (nine picks), the Phillies have taken 8 college players and one prep player.  The college breakdown was one JUCO, five four-year juniors, one fourth year senior, and one fifth-year senior. Continue reading 2019 Draft Discussion: Day Two

2019 Draft Discussion: Day One

The Phillies used their first round pick to select Bryson Stott, a shortstop out of UNLV.  He’s 6’3, 200 lbs, bats left, and throws right.

Stott slashed .356/.486/.599/1.085 with 10 HR, 20 doubles, and 36 RBI in 58 games.  In 281 plate appearances, Stott walked 55 times (19.6%) and struck out 39 times (13.9%).  He stole 16 bases in 20 attempts.

Clearwater (30-27) beat Jupiter, 5-4. 

Alejandro Requena (4-3, 4.39) pitched 5.1 innings and gave up 3 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks while striking out five.  Kyle Arjona (2.57) gave up one run on 2 hits and struck out threein two innings.  Keylan Killgore (2.37) gave up a hit and a walk in 1.2 innings and struck out five. Threshers Recap – 6/2/2019

Clearwater (29-27) lost to Dunedin, 5-4 in ten innings.  This was an important series for the Threshers.  They dropped 2 of 3 to the first place team and are now 5.5 games out of first.  Their elimination number is nine with 14 games remaining. Continue reading Threshers Recap – 6/2/2019

Open Discussion: Week of June 3, 2019
