Lehigh Valley Report

With their 5-4 loss in ten innings last night, the ‘Pigs have lost three straight games and four of their last five games.  Still at 49-28, Lehigh Valley sits in first place of the Northern DIvision of the International League, holding a 2.5 game lead.  The ‘Pigs continue home through next Monday with three more against Pawtucket, followed by four games against Rochester.  The ‘Pigs have not lost more than four in a row all season.

News and Notes:  Last night, Rhys Hoskins extended his on base streak to 8 games, during which he has hit .414.  Also on June 19th, Hoskins became the only player in Lehigh Valley history to hit multiple home runs in 3 games.

–Since starting the season hitting .136, Dylan Cozens is hitting .286 since with 13HR and 35RBI.

–Over his last 39 games, Nick WIlliams is hitting .303 with 13HR and 39RBI

–Over their last 26 home games, Lehigh Valley have won 21 of them and have not lost a home series all season (11 series)

–SInce missing 8 games with leg soreness, SS JP Crawford has hit safely in 5 of 7 games (.258, 6RBI).

–Over his last 12 starts, P Tom Eshelman is 8-2 with a 2.25ERA and has walked 10, while striking out 56.

–Before getting called back up to Philly on Monday, RP Ricardo Pinto had thrown 13.1 consecutive scoreless innings for Lehigh Valley in relief with just 1 walk and 10K’s.

Mark Appel has been pitching well, albeit with continued control issues.  Over his last 6 starts, he is 3-1 with a 2.00ERA and an opposition batting average of .260

Brandon Leibrandt threw 5 innings, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits in his AAA debut.

–In 14 starts this season, Jake Thompson has just 3 quality starts and the ‘Pigs are 4-10 in games in which he starts. Opponents are hitting .348 with runners is scoring position against him.

–Since allowing 2ER on opening day, Jesen Therrien, is 2-0 with a 1.29ERA and 9SV in 28G between Reading and LV.

–P Pat Vendittee continues struggling with a 6.16ERA over his last 14 games.

–Catcher Logan Moore has reached base safely in 22 of his 25 games played this year and has thrown out 29% of would be basestealers.

  1. There’s a reason why Vendittee has been with so many different organizations. He can throw with either hand but he just can’t get guys out on a consistent basis, especially major league hitters. Nice story but this is probably as far as it goes.
