Spring Training 2014, Day 2

I arrived at the Carpenter Complex early and found out that the position players who had already reported would be taking batting practice in Bright House Field at 10:30AM and that it would be open to the public.  I checked the schedule for the Carpenter Complex fields (each guard is issued one each day) and found that the pitchers and catchers would be following the same regimen they followed on Thursday.  So, rather than watch PFPs and strugglung to get a peek at the pitchers thowing off the mounds, I walked over to watch BP. Baseball Prospectus Top 10 Phillies Prospects

I am a big fan of the Baseball Prospectus Top 10 prospects.  Right now the prospect team assembled there is really talented and have been able to get a lot of eyes on a lot of players.  This leads to reports that are some of the most detailed outside of major league front offices.  The Phillies list itself is posted here.

 Top 10:

  1. Maikel Franco
  2. Jesse Biddle
  3. J.P. Crawford
  4. Kelly Dugan

And Another Keyboard Heard From

Greetings Readers

As we approach the start of Spring Training, I would like to take this opportunity to say, “Hello” to all the Phuture Phillies readers and also tell you a little about me.

I retired from a civil service position in the fall of 2011 and moved to Clearwater within 6 weeks.  I began devoting my time to following the Phillies off season moves.  I visited all the sites you probably access to keep abreast of baseball news.  I was growing increasingly appalled at the amount of negativity on most Phillies sites when I found Phuture Phillies.

I became a Threshers season ticket holder in 2012.  I discovered that Gulf Coast League games were played at the Carpenter Complex that summer.  I learned about the Florida Instructional League that autumn. Continue reading And Another Keyboard Heard From

Pitchers and Catchers reported today, so lets look at who is in camp.  Some players are only for depth or experience and will end up in minor league camp shortly.  Others are in positional battles that will go down to the last day of camp.  We will have much more as camp gets fully underway, for now here are some guys who spent a lot of time in the minors in 2013 and are no locks to make the roster.

40 Man Roster:

RHP – Phillippe Aumont
RHP – Luis Garcia
RHP – Ethan Martin
RHP – Michael Stutes
RHP – B.J. Rosenberg
LHP – Joe Savery Continue reading Minor Leaguers in Spring Training

Reader Top 30 #28 – Jan Hernandez

I have avoided run-offs to this point but Jan Hernandez and Andrew Pullin cam in separated 64 to 62 with the next highest vote total at 15.  So winner takes 27, loser 28 and we continue the normal voting on the last two spots.
