Box Score Recap – 8/7/2013

Zach Green hit a home run (9, puts him in sole possession of the league lead), added a double, and struck out twice. 2-5 with 2XBH and 2K shall henceforth be know as the “Zach Green Special”. Let’s see if that catches on.

2 HR from Andrew Knapp (2,3), and he went 2-5 with 2K. HOLY COW HE HIT A ZACH GREEN SPECIAL!

Jiandido Tromp was 2-4 with a homer, (1), a double and 2K. One more ground-out and he could have had a “Zach Green Special”.

And Dylan Cozens was 1-4 with a bomb (6) and 2K. Just a late-inning XBH shy of a “Zach Green Special”.

Boy, that really caught on fast. And all that from the same game? Wow.

    1. Is the Larry Greene special 4 k’s, or 4 cheeseburgers with fries.

Mmm, I could go for a five guys run now.

    1. Not sure exactly what you’re asking, but he’s a 24 year old in A+ at first base that isn’t mashing enough to be a prospect even if he was age appropriate. His age alone would make him a fringe prospect at best, but the fact that he’s basically exclusively played 1B takes him out of the prospect standings completely, in my opinion.

That said, I’m extremely intrigued by him. As I mentioned, he’s been almost exclusively a 1B… but he’s now pitched in 2 separate games for Clearwater, and 12 games in LF. You have to figure he has some kind of arm if they used him as a pitcher twice (even if it’s an emergency, OF/3B typically get called upon because they have strong arms), and he was a pitcher in college. So what’s the deal? He must have worse speed than Franco if he has an arm but he’s still relegated to 1B. But then again, if he has an arm, why not try him at C? They really would have nothing to lose.

    2. very very under the rader, gold glove defender and a very solid swing, added alot of strength over last winter, now starting to drive balls, 2 hard hit doubles last night / one to left and one to right, has turned himself into a prospect.

  1. you also forgot to mention the Pullin was 2-5 with a triple and 2k… he came close to the special as well.

    1. Please, use the full term: “Zach Green Special”. We’re never going to get this thing off the ground if we don’t. 😉

  2. Has anyone read any reports on Wilmer Olberto? Other than his height and age, I can’t find much of anything.

  3. Seems like that “nothing special” guy just added his non-special 3 hits in 3 ABs to include a HR, double, and single vs. the Cubbies while manning 3b.

Pretty good for a non-special guy. Go Cody!! Asche done smashie!

Franco–if/when he makes MLB to first base!

  4. So yay Jesse Biddle pitched 6 shut-out innings only giving up 3 hits and striking out 5.

    He walked *SEVEN*.

  5. One of the posters here said that he was ok but nothing special, re: Asche.

    It may have been MattWinks.

Since I have been giving Cody the plaudits since I “discovered” him two seasons ago, I need to keep promoting him…since, for me, he represents our 3rd baseman for the next 10 years…notwithstanding Franco who, if/when he makes it to MLB, should be anticipating playing first base.

    1. Why are you taking on this “me against the world” attitude? Everyone on this site likes Asche and thins he’ll be a solid mlb player

      1. What kind of me against the world? I made note of ONE comment. Is that not permitted?

Alec: not everyone here says what you say they do. This one commentary was one I responded to.

Is that “me against the world.? The “world” is NOT one person.

And, maybe you haven’t been following the postings about Asche over the past two seasons. If you had, you would have found some of us very happy and delighted that Cody would make to the bigs…doing well on the way.

There have also been others who doubted whether he’d ever make to MLB…citing poor fielding, lack of HR power, etc. And all along I and others labeled him a likely excellent candidate to fill 3rd base for us. I am taking much joy to have been correct all along, like some others here. Glad the doubters have been off base.

If you had followed the discussions, you’d know that. And you’d also know why i posted that above.

        1. I have been following and since last year no one has been saying he wouldn’t make the majors. The doubts they have had were whether his defense would improve and if he could be more then an average regular. EVERYONE on the site thinks he will be atleast a solid everyday player. However, you’re the only one saying he will hit .320+ with 30HRs.
And saying you “discovered” Asche gives off the vibe it is you against everyone who doesn’t believe he’ll be as good as you think.

          1. Actually, while I wouldn’t take credit for “discovering” Asche, I wonder if my praise of him from June of 2011 was the earliest example of someone talking him up as a possible top 15 player in the system. 🙂

(And Art, this isn’t directed at you, so please don’t think I am picking on you again.)

  6. I had Zach Green as my break-out player this year. Not sure if he is breaking out but still nice season for him. Also, Rosin looks like legit starting pitching prospect.
