Hard to believe he was once a Top 50-80 prospect (50ish on BA and 80ish on MLB.com). Such a disappointment.

Trevor May sucks too now and he was a top 60 guy. Pitching prospects are so unpredictable.

I completely agree…between the uncertainty of the development curve and the high number of injury attrition, the saying of “there is no such thing as a pitching prospect” tends to be quite accurate.
Drabek and Carrasco also come to mind…both make the Majors and get completely derailed by injuries.

trevor may has a 3.56 ERA in AA

And a 4.37 BB/9 and a 8.73 K/9 while repeating the level. His walk rate is down .30 as well as his K rate. The biggest difference is that he cut his HR/9 in half but that may be as much about the change in home ballpark. He is also a year older, repeating the same level. He has pitched better of late but it sure looks like a back end starter or reliever.

It’s taken Trevor May five seasons to navigate 3 levels of minor league baseball. (He was at Lakewood in 2009) And he still hasn’t passed AA. Enough said.

And then there are the Tyler Cloyd’s of the baseball world, no special stuff….but they are survivors.

So much for the Baby Aces. Although a lot of us cautioned people to be realistic when talking about pitching prospects especially when they were still so low in the minors. Injuries and flame-out are so common. I bet most of the readers around 30 or older remember “Generation-K” for the Mets and how that turned out. I remember listening to their fans on WFAN at the time and it wasn’t a case of if they’d be good MLB pitchers or not. Their fans were like it was going to be who was going to win the Cy Young out of the 3 on a yearly basis once they made it to the bigs.

I had bunch of signed Paul Wilson (Skybox Signature) minor league cards. Haven’t looked at them since.

Dugan up to 10.5% BB rate on the year. Its gong to keep increasing until he’s moved up, noone is going to give him anything to hit without Franco behind him.

Great, i hope he maintains a 11-15% walk rate for the rest of his career 🙂
Agreed though that it’s time for him to move up.

Dugan’s been a monster ever since they had him give up trying to hit RH. His bat will hopefully be enough to carry him to the Majors.

With Franco now in Reading, I think Williamsport replaces Clearwater as my favorite box score to follow.

Agreed, the GCL will be fun too. Starts tomorrow!

I am intrigued by Severino Gonzalez in Clearwater. Does anyone know anything about him? Just looking at his numbers, he is impressive. 32 Ks to 2 walks in 26.1 innings this year. Just 16 hits and 1 earned run. His numbers have been just as impressive in the VSL the last two years. Is he a legit bullpen prospect?

This was posted on another thread but it can be easy to miss some posts. The upshot is that he has a fastball that sits around 90 mph, and his standout pitch is a 12-6 curveball that he apparently has great command and control over.

Is Severino really 153 lbs.? He definitely needs to get stronger, although you cant argue with the results. 6’1 153 is crazy.

Here’s another from Brookover last week. No real analysis of what he throws. Jordan says he uses the fastball aggressively and has improved his breaking stuff.

It sounds like he has the same build and fastball as Julio Rodriguez.

The Phillies will have something out at about 11:00 am tomorrow. I don’t know why they do that, but I gave up anticipating a while ago. What is on the site now is what is left after everyone else was placed on another team and people who have been let go, e.g., Minarek.

Yeah, that’s basically anyone from last year who’s not been moved to another roster. I looked for it today also. Nothing yet. Probably won’t fill out until tomorrow morning, as guys in extended can be added pretty much whenever before the start of games.

Two years ago the Phillies were buzzing about Schull. Will we see why this GCL season?
Does anyone know why 2012 was a wash for him? I don’t remeber if he was hurt?

I think he might have still been hurt. He definitely hasn’t had a chance to pitch much. Hopefully we get to see it this year and he can stay healthy.

He pitched once; did well; then was shelved for the rest of the year.

Reading’s win last night was impressive. They kept at it and Valle gave them a boost with the homer to score one more; then another in extra innings. Valle took two pitches off the plate; then nailed the homer. Murphy does what Andy Tracy did for so long. Maybe Murphy will wind up in an administrative or managerial role with the club.
