Hoby Milner keeps doing things. 7IP, 1R, 5H, 0BB and 6K. Quite a night from Michael Martinez. 4-4 with a HR, drove in 2 and scored 2. Sebastian Valle with a HR in his second straight game pumping his OPS to .857 in his last ten games. Seth Rosin didn’t get out of the third – his second straight clunker.
Here’s the affiliate Scoreboard from MiLB.

You forgot Kyrell’s 1st HR. It was the only run for CLW. Dugan overshadows that though with his 3 – 4. Severino again. 15 2/3 innings, 9 hits, 17 Ks and 2 BBs, opposing hitters batting .170 against him. I’m waiting for his 1st clunker to see how he responds to it but that seems to be in the distant future. Did I mention he’s 20 years old and in his 1st year state-side? I think the Phils planned to stretch him out and use him as a starter in Wmsprt but they’ve found a reliable reliever who’s 2 levels above that.

And I noticed Reading played at “People’s Natural Gas” field. Do they serve a lot of beans there? Mungo like beans.

Before games, they hit fly balls to the outfielders with ‘mungo bats’.

I mentioned on Twitter (you all can follow me @bxe1234) that it seems to be a bad sign when it’s June and Kyrell Hudson leads Larry Greene on the org’s HR leader board. Poor LGj.

now the question is does Tocci hit one before LGJ

Severino must have some kind of special deception going on there. 11BB in 151 professional innings and striking out better than a batter per inning. If he were touching 98-99 I’d expect we would have heard about it by now. Still, some insane numbers he’s put up the past few years and to see he duplicate at Advanced-A what he had been doing in the VSL the past few years has to have some people excited.
They don’t bring these guys state-side for ***** and giggles and they don’t usually start them off against high-A competition. Is it time to move beyond tongue-in-cheek excitement with this guy? Anyone have a velocity reading?

I’m still wondering why Severino wasn’t stateside last year. I’d love for him to get a chance to start in Clearwater (with Hoby Milner getting promoted). Why send him down to Williamsport if he can get A+ hitters out?

Maybe he had a problem with the language.

This guy’s like an apparition … he’s been putting up eye-popping numbers for 2+ seasons (albeit in the VSL), yet there’s nary a scouting report detailing velocity, control, location, arsenal, etc. I can infer from his size (6’1″, 153 per B-R) that he’s not a fireballer, unless he’s Tim Lincecum’s Latin American cousin. He’s thrown 15 innings in Clearwater this season. There has to have been someone that’s seen him pitch? Right?

Pedro Martinez was smaller than that ,Ron Guidry and Johan Santana was shorter

Gorm Heimueller was asked about him in a recent Phoulballz interview”
“He’s done a great job. We sent him over there, because we had a couple of injuries and we had a guy go up and we needed somebody there to fill in for a while. He came to his first spring training this year. Strike thrower…he throws the ball over the plate. Breaking ball’s gotten better in the past month or so. And he’s somebody that’s just taken advantage of an opportunity. He’s gonna get the ball somewhere. Right now, he’s taking it there, but he’s just ready to pitch and it’s a great story.”
So I guess we can conclude that he throws strikes, and has some sort of breaking ball (surprise). And, probably, that he doesn’t throw very hard.

I’m amazed at how consistent Franco has been this year. Aside from being good, and hitting for power, he seems to not have gone into any slumps, even for a few days. If he goes 0 for his next 33, I take full responsibility.

I haven’t given up on Larry Greene Jr., but his start is worse than Kyrell Hudson’s in many respects. Hopefully he can get it together, but almost 400 AB’s in he is batting under .190 at A ball and has 2 homeruns. For a guy that is likely limited to 1B in the NL and paid $1M to sign that is pretty terrible.

Can have a rough start for several different factors. 2 months into the season as of right now and I believe he has only been with Lakewood for about a month maybe a month in a half. I say lets see what June and July bring. Keeping the fai

The chances that LG Jr becomes a ML regular are very low, but he is still a few years away from being tossed away in the Jeff Jackson, Chad McConnell bin.

You can add Greg Golson to that list and make room for Hewitt and Collier too.

There is no reason to give up on Larry Greene Jr, I would imagine that he goes to Williamsport and repeats Lakewood next year. If we are looking at similar numbers this time next year, it might be a different story.
Obviously Ruben and the brain trust with the Phils are soooooooooooooo much smarter than I, but isnt a Dugan for Collier trade from Reading the Clearwater the best move for both and the organization??

I think we’ll see a lot of movement from CLW in the near future. The Altherr/Franco/Dugan/Perkins combo should all see Reading before its all said and done in 2013.

Not Perkins now….he is not due back from the hand injury until July sometime, and will need to get back his stroke.

Right. I still contend that Dugan is the first of the Clearwater hitters to be moved up. Makes sense on a number of levels

I agree. Age and the lack of corner OFs in the upper levels being the main reasons. Plus, no reason to rush Franco based on age and Asche, and Altherr still striking out too much

I know that Rubin bashing has become a sport around this site but do people really think that Amaro is sitting is his office deciding on who gets promoted and demoted in the minors? I would expect he defers most of that decision making to the guys who are in charge of the minor league system like Joe Jordo, the scouts, and the coaches from the affiliates.

Joe Jordon that is.

No, but people do think that prior to last season RAJ budgetted far too little for the draft and for international bonuses. Some put that on RAJ, I put that more on the owners. A lot of us blame RAJ for the Pence trade, which cost us Singleton. Also blame for the lost draft picks on his watch.

And In defense of Amaro who was the one prospect he was not willing to part with, Brown. And what group of fans liked Brown more, the SABER guys. So i am not sure who really undervalues walks Ruben or Charlie. This is not to be an endorsement of Amaro, There is a lot i do not like about what he has done, but this just seemed interesting to me as i tend to believe ones actions over ones words.

The owners do the budgeting and control the money-blame them not Ruben. I guess you blame the building collapse in Philadelphia yesterday on him too.

I can live with the lost draft picks. Amaro was making FA signings trying to improve the team. We lost first round picks for Lee and Papelbon? I’ll ok with that

Amaro deserves his fair share of criticism (although I’m not as exercized about the Pence trade as others) but for too many, he’s become the fall guy for everything wrong with the team.

Dugan has a shot at leading the FSL in OPS. Miguel Sano has slowed down a bit and Dugan is in third place, .080 points behind

I think it was yesterday that I saw an interesting item in a boxscore. The VSL Phils picked 4 runners off base. That’s pretty unique but what really caught my attention that 2 of the pickoffs were by pitchers and the other 2 were by a catcher (Adrian Acosta) who was born in 1996. I don’t know how old that makes him but he probably can’t shave yet. He has to be one of the bonus babies… right?

I am making a Clearwater trip (more of a pilgrimage in my opinion) in about 2 weeks. Selfishly, I am hoping I get to see Franco before he heads north. Will also try to get info on Severino.
Along the same lines, looking forward to seeing who we draft/sign that I can watch for GC.

kinda off topic but on mlb.com , they no longer have Quinn in the top 20 prospects , I think its an error but I might drop Larry Greene unless he really turns it around , maybe this wakes him up and he comes in next year in great shape and finds some bad speed

I fear that Greene is just biding his time until he can return to football. He shows no signs of a guy who wants to make a success of his baseball career.
