Collier, as you know, has been dealing with a hand/wrist injury for the last few months, and according to this article, he is now being ruled out for the season. Collier came out strong after being selected in the compensation round in 2008, but he struggled last season, and 2010 now goes down as a lost season. Collier doesn’t turn 20 until September, so time is still on his side, but he needs at bats, and losing an entire season is a big blow. Provided he comes back fully healthy in 2011, he’ll be back at Lakewood at age 20, which is just fine, but he desperately needs to log 500+ PA in 2011 to get back on the developmental track.

Yep, tough break for the young man but as stated, he’s still young enough to come back healthy in 2011 and still be well within the age range for his level.

Well, the article is based on a quote from Steve Nowryta so I guess that raises it to the fact on the ground level. I don’t know that Collier gets a free pass to Lakewood , as he will have not played in a year at that time and he previously had only excelled in the Rookie League, and did not excell at Williamsport when demoted from Lakewood last season. And who would dare say that Anthony Hewitt is higher along the developmental scale as of now, and that the professionals were right in the order of selection for these two prospects?

Tough break for him…more like 2 years lost as he played hurt last year.
Sucks for a “raw toolsy” guy.
