Spring training invites

Courtesy of David Murphy’s twitter

Dom Brown, BJ Rosenberg, Freddy Galvis, Aumont, Gillies and Savery among Phils prospects invited to spring training

None of them are on the 40 man roster, so all of them will almost assuredly be re-assigned to minor league camp, but it will be nice for them to get a taste of big league spring training and pitch against big leaguers.

Current prospects on the 40 man roster; Bastardo, Carpenter, Escalona, Flande, Herndon (Rule 5), Mathieson, Naylor, JC Ramirez, Jesus Sanchez, Zagurski, Berry, Mayberry.

JC Ramirez comfortably took the #8 spot, grabbing 39% of the vote, ahead of Scott Mathieson and Antonio Bastardo. We’re getting close to rounding out the top 10, and with that, just a simple reminder. I’m no longer going to add new names to the new ballot, for fear that I might “influence” the results or somehow taint the voting. I’m purposely not publishing my own personal Top 30 until this is done, and its been brought to my attention that adding Jiwan James to the last poll could have somehow upset the flow of this whole thing. So from here on out, the only way new guys will be added is if they are write-in votes or if someone suggests names they want added. So, check below the fold for #9 and keep that in mind going forward, especially if you vote OTHER…

Phillies sign Miguel Nunez, have “mild interest” in Chia-Jung Lee

Thanks for all those pointing this out in the comments.  Paul Hagen from the Philadelphia Daily News has the scoop on the Phillies’ latest international signing: Miguel Nunez, a 6’6″ right-hander from the Dominican Republic, who signed recently for a $220K bonus.

Analysis?  Well, that’s a projectable frame.  Seriously though, we don’t know much yet, so I’ve sent an email to Ben Badler from Baseball America, who’s their international guy.  What we do know is that this follows in the organization’s habit of inking medium-range international signees: both Lino Martinez ($325K) and community #6 prospect Domingo Santana ($300K) were signed via this route in the past year.

Hagen also reports the Phillies’ “mild interest” in Taiwanese outfielder Chia-Jung Lee, a 21-year old from Leader University who would receive in the neighborhood of a $100K bonus.

First post of the new year, and we’ll just jump right back into the fray with the #8 spot in the voting. Sebastian Valle was the runaway winner at #7, taking 41% of the votes cast, with JC Ramirez coming 2nd, and then a largely split vote behind him. I’m going to add toolsy OF Jiwan James to the voting for #8, even though he probably won’t garner many votes in the next few polls, we still need another name. Check below the fold for more..
