Updated Minor League Rosters ST Week 4

Alright gang, here are this week’s updated minor league rosters. You can compare this to the week 3 roster and week 2 rosterand week 1 roster that I had posted earlier if you would like.

Quite a few cuts all in around in the minors this week, with one more round left to go this week before minor league rosters are finalized next Monday.

I’ll keep on the lookout for each new officially posted roster and keep them updated here as needed.

I don’t know how much of a limb I am going out on to project this, but I have updated my Clearwater Threshers website with this (click here) as my projected 2008 line up. The projection is based on the latest 2008 ST roster mixed in with a little intuition. I’m guessing I’ll have about 20 of the 25 players correct, with a few free agent signings thrown in at the last minute just to mess things up and maybe a few other moves in the mix.

About Jeff Crupper

It depends on which blog you are reading, but now now you have either discovered that I am a huge baseball fan, or that I have a twisted sense of humor and like to rant about just about anything. Whichever it is I hope you enjoy your stay and spread the word.

  1. Read that Bastardo started and pitched three shutout innings for Group 2 (Reading) yesterday. That would be an interesting AA rotation of Carrasco, Outman, Carpenter, Bastardo and probably Cruse.

  2. Hey Jeff (anyone else who might know…),

Any ideas why Clay Harris is with group 5? He’s at least a group 3 talent, maybe even group 2 at this point. Is he hurt, or learning a new position?

  3. Clwtr shows another shot at a championship in the FSL, high A. Hoping that they MUST move Dom Brown up to Clwtr from Lakewood at midseason since IMO he is one of our most likely guys to bring near-star power to the Phils in 2-3 years…the sooner the better.

Aside from the questions about our future pitching guys , our 3 oncoming best prospect are Brown, Golson, and Marson with Golson to join the big club soonest followed by Marson,.. .then Brown.

    A position lineup like this:

    C-Ruiz, Jaramillo, Marson
    1B-The BIG guy!!
    2b-Utley–of course, next MVP?
SS-Jimmie, 07’s MVP; say no more!
3b-Feliz-Great fielder, some power, holding until Mattair??
LF-Burrell: will he stay in Philly?
CF- Golson; 5-tool guy ready to complete great ’08 season at AA & AAA–Victorino to stick around for comfort
    RF-Brown; our Daryl Strawbery clone.

IMO, with adequate to good pitching, or better, this lineup is set to create a DYNASTY in Philly…so long as owners will spend $$$ to tweak here and there.

Watching our Minor Lg guys should be lots of fun in ’08…adding in the 6 draft picks that are ours in June ’08!

Given the fine status of the above lineup, those SUPERIOR-SIGNED draftees COULD refine thge system for 3-4 more years. Using them wisely and $pending necessary to gain signatures will yield more strength to our oncomings…and make us FINALLY glad to be a Phils’ fan for years to come!

  4. Thanks RB! Looks like Galvis has been hitting a little bit, not much out of Golson though, although I guess you can’t tell much from the little blurbs you get.

  5. I don’t know for SURE, but I’ve got to think Clay Harris is hurt to be in Group 5. Honestly I had not even noticed that until you pointed it out. I saw him the other day and talked to him, but not about baseball, so next time I see him I’ll ask him what gives.

  7. Is the Jason Kershner in group 1 the Phillies hot prospect from maybe 10 years ago? They had 4 stud pitchers coming through together. Kershner, Rob Berger, and two that escape me now. I don’t think any of them had any significant success at the major league level.

  8. We know that in addition to the players mentioned above Fabio Castro has been optioned to Reading plus Golson, Harmon, Donald, Marson, Carrasco, Outman and Carpenter are expected to make up the nucleus.

  9. Any feel for where Comenarez will end up? Good to see him up in the states for group 5. How has he done this spring?
