It’s been two plus weeks since our last Clearwater Threshers Report with the team going 9-9 over that period. The team is now three games out of first place with thirteen games remaining in the season’s first half. (For those unfmiliar with the FSL playoff format, the season is split into two halves with the winner of the first half making the playoffs to face the winner of the season’s second half.) The Sarasota Reds currently lead the Threshers’ division, but they will have a critical three game set versus the Threshers to end the first-half of the year.
Since the last report the FSL has named the All-Star team which will include five Threshers players. The Threshers on the All-Star team will include: Pitchers Carlos Carrasco , Andrew Carpenter and Pat Overholt as well as catcher Lou Marson, and OF/DH Jeremy Slayden.
Carlos Carrasco has a record of 5-2 for the team with a 3.59 ERA, and after a stint on the DL has been solid in his last two outings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits with 9 Ks in 12.2 innings of work. Andrew Carpenter is 6-3 for the team with a 4.04 ERA and picked up a win in his last outing giving up 2 runs on four hits. Pat Overholt is 4-5 on the year with a 3.84 ERA with 45K v 25BB.
Lou Marson has been hot with his bat as of late hitting over .300 in May and June and is second in the FSL in throwing out caught stealing. Jeremy Slayden is 4th in the FSL in OBP at .404 and leads the team in HR and OPS.
New additions to the Threshers’ roster since the last report have been Nic Jackson who was signed as a free agent from the Mets, Jason Donald who was promoted from Lakeland (hitting .333 with HR, a triple, and 3RBIs in two games with the Threshers), and Nate Johnson who was sent down from Reading. Meanwhile Jason Wylie has come off the DL to join the team (1.95 ERA in 9.1 innings) and Pete Shier was released.
Eude Brito had a rehab stint at Clearwater before returning to AAA Ottowa and Mike Zagurski was promoted to Reading and has since made his MLB debut with the Phillies.
