  1. Slayden is an interesting case. He had a nice year at L’wood,
but, at his age, he’s got to make the jump to Reading to stay
competitive. Even if he succeeds there, there are no guarantees,
given what are said to be his defensive liabilities (esp. his
weak arm). Yet he’s one of the few bats in the organization.

  2. I am really hoping that Slayden slays ’em at Reading this year. He raked at Ga Tech, he’s raked in the minors, and I feel that he can be a valuable player for the Phils (4th OF?). For an organization lacking in the hitting department, he is one guy that can hit. So what if he’s going on 25? If he can hit, he can hit. I seem to remember the Phils having a lot of guys who were below-par fielders in LF (Luzinski, Gant, Incaviglia, Burrell, etc.).

  3. Well, age matters when it comes to trying to figure out what he can do down the road. His Low A numbers need to be taken in the context that he was playing against guys much younger than him.
