A fairly lousy week for the IronPigs who went 3-5 on the week, and are now in 5th Place of the Northern Division, 8 games behind division leading Scranton. The ‘Pigs did pick it up towards the end of the week, winning their last two games. Hitting leaders include Andy Tracy who is 4th in runs (51) ,2nd in homers (15), 2nd in RBI’s (57), and first in walks (52) ;Rich Thompson who is 8th in triples (4) and 7th in stolen bases (17). On the hill, Andrew Carpenter is tied for second in wins with eight, leading the league in innings pitched (101) and 10th in ERA (2.85). Lehigh Valley Weekend Update
An abbreviated update due to the holiday weekend. After being swept by Syracuse in a day/night doubleheader last Friday, both teams boarded their respective buses for the four hour drive to Syracuse to continue their weekend series in Alliance Field.
7/4/09–An excellent outing by Gustavo Chacin was wasted as the ‘Pigs lost 3-2 to Syracuse in 12 innings. Chacin went 7.1 innings giving up just a run on 7 hits. He walked one and struck out five, and left with a 2-1 lead which was blown by Gary Majewski. Jason Anderson (0-1) took the loss, giving up a 12th inning game winning double. Both ‘Pig runs were scored in the 4th, the key hit being a Miguel Cairo RBI single. Cairo has 3 hits in the losing cause, while Jason Ellison added two of his own. Another good week for Lehigh Valley as they went 4-2 and continue their ascent in the International League standings, and now stand at 39-40, in 4th Place of the Northern Division, six games behind division leading Scranton. ‘Pig hitting leaders include Rich Thompson who is ninth in both triples (3) and steals (15); Andy Tracy is 3rd in runs (48), 2nd in homers (14), 2nd in RBI’s (55) and leading the league in walks (39). On the mound, Andrew Carpenter is 4th in wins (7), 8th in innings (88.1) and 10th in ERA (2.75); Carlos Carrasco leads the league in IP (92.) and is second in strikeouts (88). A second consecutive winning week for Lehigh Valley as they went 5-2, and are now in fourth place of the Northern Division of the International League, chipping away at the lead of the division leading Yankees which now stands at 8 games. In hitting categories, Andy Tracy is 8th in runs (42), leads the league in walks (37), 2nd in homers (13) and 2nd in RBI’s(51), Rich Thompson is 8th in triples (3) and 8th in stolen bases (14). Mike Cervenak is 7th in average (.313). On the pitching side, Andrew Carpenter is 6th in wins (6) , 5th in homers allowed (11)and 7th in IP (80.1), Carlos Carrasco is 8th in IP (79.2) and 5th in strikeouts (77).
Lehigh Valley Weekend Update
6/19/09– From Durham up to Norfolk for Lehigh Valley, who won their sixth straight game, 8-6 over Norfolk. The ‘Pigs didnt need much more than Andy Tracy, who was 3-4 with 2 homers (12), 4 runs scored, a stolen base and 5 RBI’s. The first bomb came in the first, and Tracy followed that up with another in the 3rd to give the ‘Pigs a 4-0 lead at the time. Gustavo Chacin (2-0) started and went six fairly effective innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits. He walked one and struck out two, leaving the game with a 5-3 lead after six. Lehigh Valley tacked on two insurance runs in the 8th, and held on for the victory with Sergio Escalona picking up his 2nd save while with Lehigh Valley. In addition to Tracy, JJ Furmaniak (3-4, 2b, rbi) and Jason Ellison (3-5, r) had big games for Lehigh Valley, while Lou Marson went 2-5 with an RBI in his return to the ‘Pig lineup. A very good week for Lehigh Valley, as they went 6-1, but remain in 5th place of the Northern Division of the International League, 10.5 games out of first with a record of 30-36, as we approach the seasons half way mark. Batting leaders include Rich Thompson who is 8th in triples (3) and 8th in stolen bases (14); Andy Tracy tied for 5th in homers (10), 5th in walks (32) and 8th in RBI’s (42); along with Mike Cervenak who is 5th in average (.321). On the pitching ledger, Andrew Carpenter is 6th in Wins (6), 5th in innings (74.1) and 6th in homers allowed (10); Kyle Kendrick is 8th in IP (73.0); Carlos Carrasco is 9th in IP (72.2) and 4th in strikeouts (72).

6/12/09–After receiving news that both Lou Marson and Jason Donald were placed on the DL, and the nights scheduled starter, Kyle Kendrick, was called up to the big club, the ‘Pigs showed some resiliency in their 3-2, ten inning win over Charlotte. Charlotte scored two early runs off of spot starter Jake Woods, who went 4 innings, and gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. Lehigh Valley bounced back with a run in the third when David Newhan scored on a passed ball, and added another in the 4th on an RBI double by Paul Hoover to tie the score at two. The game remained tied at two until the 10th, when JJ Furmaniak’s RBI single scored Miguel Cairo. The Lehigh Valley bullpen pitched six scoreless innings in relief of Woods, with Tyler Walker (2-1) picking up the win. Cairo, Hoover, and newly recalled Mike Spidale all had two hits for the ‘Pigs. A 2-4 week for the ‘Pigs, coming home from a rough road trip. The ‘Pigs are in 5th Place of the Northern Division of the IL, 11 games behind division leading Scranton. Lehigh Valley batting leaders include Andy Tracy who is 6th in the league in homers (9), and Rich Thompson who is 8th in stolen bases (13). On the pitching end, Andrew Carpenter is 8th in Wins (5), 10th in ERA (2.75), 4th in innings (68.2) and 9th in WHIP (1.15). Kyle Kendrick is 6th in innings (67). ‘Pigs Weekend Update
6/5/09–Andrew Carpenter was on the hill to face Indianapolis in the final game of the four game series and looked outstanding once again in the 3-0 shutout ‘Pigs victory. Carpenter (4-0)went seven very strong, shutout innings giving up just four hits (3 singles). He walked two and struck out six. The game was tied at 0-0 until Rich THompson knocked in Jeremy Slayden on an RBI triple. Lehigh Valley added two more in the ninth on a John Mayberry RBI double, and David Newhan RBI single. Tyler Walker pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 3rd save. Thompson, Mayberry, and Marson all had two hits for Lehigh Valley, who took 3 out of 4 from Indianapolis.
