Open Discussion: Week of January 28, 2018

It’s just two-and-a-half weeks until pitchers and catchers report to Clearwater.  Some players are as anxious as we fans.

The hot  stove ratcheted up above a simmer as the Brewers engineered a blockbuster deal with the Marlins and then signed the biggest free agent deal so far this winter.  The Phillies, on the other hand, made a small splash with their own minor league free agent signing.

The Phillies announced some more international free agent acquisitions, and I found a dozen or so more that were posted to their transactions log recently from as far back as July 2017.

About 20 players are already in Clearwater, and another half dozen or more are expected to arrive this week.

The Phillies conducted a massive baseball operations meeting this week.

Leftwich received 52 of the 271 votes cast (19%). Francisco Morales finished second with 50 votes (18%), Kyle Young finished third with 49 votes (18%), Daniel Brito finished fourth with 34 votes (13%), and J.D. Darick Hall was your selection as the #20 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.

Hall received 41 of the 215 votes cast (19%). Francisco Morales finished second with 36 votes (17%), Kyle Young finished third with 35 votes (16%), and Daniel Brito finished fourth with 25 votes(12%).  Nineteen others received the other 78 votes. Phuture Phillies 2018 Reader Top 30 Poll for the Phillies #19 Prospect

Nick Fanti was your selection as the #18 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.  He won a runoff after he and  Arquimedes Gamboa were tied in the original poll for #18.  Fanti received 169 of 297 votes (57%) in the runoff. “NEW” Runoff for #18 in the 2018 Phuture Phillies Reader Top 30 Poll

Let’s try this again.  Arquimedes Gamboa and Nick Fanti finished tied for the 18th position in the Reader Top 30 Poll.  Each player received 51 of the 257 votes cast (20%).

2018 MLB Prospect Rankings

Phuture Phillies 2018 Reader Top 30 Poll for the Phillies #18 Prospect

Seranthony Dominguez was your selection as the #17 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.

Dominguez won a very close race receiving 63 of 293 votes (22%).  He barely beat out Nick Fanti (61, 21%).  Darick Hall finished third (37, 13%), Arquimedes Gamboa finished fourth (32, 11%), Kyle Young finished fifth (23, 8%), and Francisco Morales finished sixth (18, 6%).
