2019 Prospect Discussion, 1 of … ; Rixon Wingrove

Here’s an open discussion about some of the Phillies’ minor league prospects I saw this season.  Phillies’ talk and other non-prospect discussion should remain in the Open Discussion.

This is an open format for any minor league prospect you want to discuss.  However, I am going to start with Rixon Wingrove.  I will continue this on an irregular schedule for as long as I stay interested.  This will be mostly about low-level prospects, but could include anyone I saw last season.  If you have someone in particular you want to hear about, put the name in the comments section.  If I’ve seen enough to warrant a post, I’ll strongly consider it.

Rixon Wingrove was signed by the Phillies as an international free agent on April 20, 2018 out of Australia. Continue reading 2019 Prospect Discussion, 1 of … ; Rixon Wingrove

Fourth Annual Phillies Minor League Digest

Pardon this self promotion.  The “Fourth Annual Phillies Minor League Digest” is available on Amazon.  My friend and companion at the Carpenter Complex and Spectrum Field, Steve Potter, authors the digest and solicits participation from writers, photographers, and bloggers who follow the Phillies affiliates.  I provided the chapters on the Clearwater Threshers and the Gulf Coast League. Survey Says …

Well, I think this has run long enough.  The results aren’t going to change much if I let the polling to run any longer.  The response in all three polls was similar.  Before a hundred votes were cast, the “Go” response for all three was over 60%.  Around 200, the percentages held.  Saturday, with over 350 votes cast, Klentak’s has dipped below 60%, but MacPhail and Kapler are still over 60%. Open Discussion: Week of October 7th

I have brought the Key Dates section up to date after finding almost all upcoming important dates.  It includes the openers for the Australian Baseball League, and the major Latin American Winter Leagues – Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto RicoVenezuela hasn’t announced, yet.  Probably doesn’t matter.  I heard that players on rosters of Major League organizations at all levels were not allowed to participate. A Few Surveys …

I was asked to run a few polls by someone whose opinions I have come to respect and whose interactions with others have been above reproach.  He’d like to know the feelings of the whole Phuture Phillies community on these subjects, not just those who comment.

There are three polls.  No comments.  No multiple voting.  No showing results.

I’ll report the results and allow comments soon after completion.

How do you feel about the Phillies retaining MacPhail.

How do you feel about the Phillies retaining Klentak.

How do you feel about the Phillies retaining Kapler.

My Top Prospects, 9/2019

With the Phillies torturing us on their way to missing the playoffs, I thought you might get some mileage out of this.

Last week, Mike Drago of the Reading Eagle canvassed radio and TV personalities, baseball writers, and others who follow the Phillies minor league system for input into his annual end of season top 30 prospect list.

We were asked to rank the prospects based on their present value to the Phillies, their ceiling/potential, age, and performance relative to level.

Rule 5 Information for 2019 (last updated 10/31)

(Note that changes after publication are in red text) updated 9/1, 9/4, 9/26, 9/30, 10/9, 10/31

As baseball teams play their way out of post season contention, the attention of their fans turns to other aspects of baseball.  Some begin to fret over draft position.  Other, more insightful fans, begin to look toward the Rule 5 Draft and the roster maneuvering that precedes it.  One such diversion the Rule 5 Draft provides for me is determining the status of players as the draft draws near. 2019 Phillies Minor League Digest

A Fan’s View: Third Annual Phillies Minor League Digest is out in paperback on Amazon.  My friend, Steve Potter, is the author.  Philadelphia sports writer Jim Salisbury provides the foreword.  Steve has enlisted contributions from people who have seen the Phillies’ affiliates and prospects in the minors.  I was one of several contributors.

Phuture Phillies is not a place for people to sell things and I have deleted such posts in the comments section.  However, I don’t get paid for my time at Phuture Phillies, so I’m going to allow myself this one exception.  Especially since NO ONE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS BOOK RECEIVES ANY TYPE OF MONETARY COMPENASATION.

This is Steve’s third digest  He donates the proceeds to Phillies’ Charities.

Here’s the LINK, if interested.
