Threshers Recap – 6/10/2019

There was activity at the Complex before the rain drove everyone inside.  Tommy Hunter pitched a live BP with Logan O’Hoppe behind the plate.  It started to rain and the trooper pitched thru a heavy down pour to complete his daily throwing.

About 30-or-more new bodies were on hand,  They were observed touring the Complex with Chris Truby.  It’s likely the large number included some of the scouts who signed the boys.  I reported those who could be identified in the Draft Discussion.

Alec Bohm was selected to take part in the FSL All Star game.  He was recently added when a player from another team was withdrawn due to injury.  The third baseman was probably overlooked initially due to his late arrival to the league.  But, he certainly deserves the honor.  He is the seventh Tresher to be invited.  It remains to be seen if he attends the game or follows Jonathan Hennigan to Reading before he can take part in the weekend’s festivities.  Continue reading Threshers Recap – 6/10/2019

Threshers Recap – 6/9/2019

Last week, the South Atlantic League announced that Lakewood’s Kyle Glogoski would represent the BlueClaws in the SAL All Star game.  The Kiwi is their sole representative.  The 20-year-old has put together an impressive resume since being activated from extended spring training on May 1st.

Glogoski has pitched in 7 games and has a 3-1 record with a 0.76 ERA.  He has walked 6 and struck out 39 in 23.2 innings.  Opposing batters are hitting 1.25 against him and he carries a 0.68 WHIP.

Glosgoski’a first four appearances were as a reliever.  He made his first start on May 25th and struck out 11 batters in five innings.

Clearwater (34-28) postponed.  Dunedin lost, so the Threshers only picked up a half game on the Blue Jays.  They trail the first place Jays by 4.0 games with 7 to play.  Their elimination number remains at four. Continue reading Threshers Recap – 6/9/2019

Threshers Recap – 6/8/2019

Back in May, the FSL announced their 2019 All Star squads.  The original announcement included five Threshers – left-handed starter Damon Jones, left-handed reliever Jonathan Hennigan, shortstop Nick Maton, center fielder Simon Muzziotti, and outfielder Matt Vierling.  Hennigan has been with Reading since May 21st.  Right-handed reliever Grant Dyer has since been added to the North squad.  The game is scheduled for June 15th in Jupiter.

The Phillies have apparently come to terms with FA RHP Fernando Salas and are likely to assign him to Lehigh Valley when finalized.

Clearwater (34-28) beat Daytona, 3-2.  They have won 3 games in a row but haven’r been able to make up any ground on Dunedin.  They still trail by 4.5 games with 8 to play.  Their elimination number is four.   Continue reading Threshers Recap – 6/8/2019

Threshers Recap – 6/7/2019

I visited the Complex to watch an intrasquad game.  Edubray Ramos took the mound and faced Roman Quinn as his first batter.  Ramos won that altercation, but didn’t retire another batter before reaching his pitch limit. Continue reading Threshers Recap – 6/7/2019

Threshers Recap – 6/6/2019

Clearwater (32-28) beat Jupiter, 2-1.

This was a very well-pitched game by both staffs.  Ethan Evanko (3-1, 1.84) needed just 83 pitches (61 strikes, 73.5%) to complete seven innings.  He held the Hammerheads to one run (a solo HR in the seventh) on 3 hits and one walk.  He struck out six.  Keylan Killgore (2.14) came in and tossed two, one-hit, shutout innings to preserve the one run victory.  He struck out four and earned his sixth save. Threshers Recap – 6/5/2019

Knowing the Threshers history in Wednesday afternoon games, I went to the Complex to watch an intrasquad game.  I tweeted out these tidbits before the heat got to me.  I don’t know how I’m going to cover GCL games 6 days a week if I can’t take early June heat.
