Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/7/2021

On a night when the big club kicked some butt in Asslanta, the affiliates split again. with one team coming within one pitch, one bobble of that third win.

Clearwater was that team.  An apparent missed third strike by the umpire with two outs didn’t seem to matter when the ball was hit to Edgar Made (ma-day’) at third base.  It was hit hard and he bobbled the ball before throwing late to first.  Lakeland tied the game and went o to score 4 runs in overtime.  Lehigh Valley dug too deep a hole to walk off and lost.  Reading picked up their first win of the season.  And, Jersey Shore was one-hit but won the game. Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/6/2021

We took three out of four last night.  Clearwater got solid pitching and four pitchers combined to throw a shutout.  Lehigh Valley walked off again.  This time in the tenth inning on CJ Chatham’s RBI single.  in the ninth on a wild pitch.  Reading lost again.  The winning pitcher was old friend, Mark Leiter Jr.  Jersey Shore broke open a close game with a 4-run inning.

The most interesting news is probably that the Clearwater home plate umpire apparently opted out of wearing the ABS equipment.  I did not know they had that option.  (They don’t.) Continue reading Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/6/2021

Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/5/2021

All four games seemed to run late.  Our guys split 2-2, again.  Clearwater walked off with the most exciting walk off in baseball, a grand slam, smoked by DJ Stewart.  Lakeland’s poor base running and foolish challenges of Abrahan Gutierrez’ arm helped.  Lehigh Valley walked off in the ninth on a wild pitch.  Reading lost big (again) and was three-hit.  Jersey Shore was shut out on two hits.

It’s after 3:00 AM.  If I missed anything, I’m sorry. Goodnight. Continue reading Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/5/2021

Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/4/2021

Finally, minor league baseball.  Our guys all opened at home.  They split 2-2.  Clearwater got some promising pitching, but a 6-run inning and some shoddy outfield play hurt.  Lehigh Valley got some solid pitching and an overtime win on Scott Kingery’s 2-run base hit.  Reading lost big but got HRs from Gamboa, Miller, and Guthrie.  Jersey Shore got a stellar start from Ben Brown, some solid relief, and excellent run support provided by Jhailyn Ortiz and Logan O’Hoppe. Playoff Recap – 9/6/2019

No worries about wasting a great start tonight.  Adonis Medina took the mound and settled things early.  He retired just four batters and dug the Phils an early hole that proved too much to overcome.  The bullpen was little better, giving up an additional seven runs before Julian Garcia and Aaron Brown combined for three scoreless innings. Playoff Recap – 9/5/2019

The Reading Phils wasted another excellent pitching performance by a starting pitcher.  A night after Spencer Howard held the Trenton Thunder to one run and two infield hits in seven innings (and striking out twelve), David Parkinson shut out the Thunder on three hits in seven innings.  But, whereas the Phils’ bull pen couldn’t preserve a 3-1 lead Wednesday, it was the offense that was deficient Thursday, getting shutout through ten innings. Playoff Recap – 9/4/2019

Spencer Howard threw seven innings of two-hit ball last night.  This was three days short of the anniversary of his nine-inning no-hitter for Lakewood last season in the playoffs.  Last night he was equally impressive as he recorded twelve strike outs. Continue reading Playoff Recap – 9/4/2019

Threshers Recap – 9/2/2019

Very depressing news out of Erie yesterday.  Chace Numata died from head injuries he sustained in a skate boarding accident.  I’d like to extend the condolences of the Phuture Phillies community to his family as they deal with this tragedy. Continue reading Threshers Recap – 9/2/2019
