Clearwater played last night after a late afternoon storm blew through the area.  The Threshers beat Daytona, 5-2, as Mick Abel picked up his first professional win.  He dominated the Tortugas after issuing a leadoff walk to start the game.  The 19-year-old righty pitched a career-high five innings and allowed no hits. Clearwater was scheduled to play two games against Daytona Friday, and our Florida weather complied, shunting bad weather to either side of our area.  The first game was a pitchers’ battle with the Threshers coming out on top, 1-0.  The second game, after a short delay to make sure that lightning would not be a problem, also featured strong pitching in a 2-1 Threshers’ loss.  The Threshers are now 23-23 and in fourth place in their division. Thanks to a couple of makeups, the teams played six games last night.  They went a collective 3 and 3.  of particular note, five of the six starting pitchers went at least five innings.  Clearwater split with Dunedin, Rixon Wingrove homered in each game.  Lehigh Valley lost.  Reading pitched a shutout.  And, Jersey Shore split with Hudson Valley. There were three, low-scoring games and a rainout last night.  Clearwater was the rainout.  The game will be played on Saturday.  Lehigh Valley lost a one-run game collecting just three hits.  Reading returned to their recent winning ways in a one-run victory.  And, Jersey Shore dropped a one-run game, also managing just three hits.  Mickey Moniak (LHV) hit his eighth HR, Herbert Iser (JS) hit his fourth.  Jake Hernandez (REA) got his fourth save. Clearwater outlasted Dunedin in a high-scoring affair.  Lehigh Valley gut drubbed in a one-sided affair.  Reading won, again.  Break up the Fightin’ Phils.  That’s seven of their last eight.  Former Phillie Brock Stassi drove in the go-ahead run with a pinch-hit.  And Jersey Shore wasted a great start and lost their 4th game in their last five.
