  1. Saltiban hasn’t been consistent but when he has games like this, he’s a player to dream on.

  2. all of these 7day iL stints. Gaming the system or truly have a lot of players hurt?

    will viars get a promotion?

  3. Drop one of Marte-Ruiz-Ortiz and put Lazar on the forty. Maybe he is this season’s Kerkering.

  4. Can someone please explain why teams make trades for cash? I can’t imagine there’s too much money trading hands on deals like this. Are they just doing something good for the player? Does it add any money to the International Pool? (I can’t imagine it does). Maybe the Phillies needed to shed some players bc they are up against the roster limits?

    1. i.e. the Cubs were just purchasing some experienced backup in the receiving department from the Phillies. Simoneit was in the Development Group I believe. Jim probably knows the particulars better than me.

    2. Teams put out emails to scouts letting them know what minor league players who else would not garner much interest will be coming available due to roster considerations. It’s a professional courtesy to ascertain if another organization may have interest. The cash consideration is usually $1 – it’s nominal – just a way to help a player land a job elsewhere.

        1. it’s just load management. Nikau missed an entire year after having knee reconstruction surgery. While his knee has held up fine there’s continued work on strengthening outside of game action with the idea that going forward he can appear in more games. He’s a tremendous worker and is very coachable. Will get thru it.

          1. Thanks, Steve. I figured it must have something to do with his knee. He is too good of a natural hitter to be a part-time Low A player.
