    1. Agreed, Graves is a guy we were excited about at one time but he’s not done much before this excellent start. Let’s hope it’s something he can build on.

  1. Matt Kroon just keeps getting hits. He’s 27 and not really a prospect at this point but I’m pulling for him to get his major league cup of coffee at some point. He plays multiple positions and seems like a solid bench piece for some team. He’s probably better than some of the guys I just watched this weekend on the White Sox.

  2. Walker threw fewer 4Smrs…mostly sinkers, cutters and splitters. I wonder if he is being tentative and not wanting to air it out because of the shoulder. IMO, Phillies ought to extend the IL for a few more starts from him at LHV.

  3. Im sure its been addressed before but why is the FCL starting so early and then end mid Summer? Draft isnt until All star break so new picks won’t play in games.

  4. Can we put Kingery back on the prospect lists???? Jk but am happy for him and hope he gets a chance to play in the big leagues somewhere sometime.

    1. Kingery should be thanking the Phillies for offering him that $24M contract. For that money, he gave the Phillies 0.5 WAR. Kingery has made as much money as 12 year vet Kevin Pillar if you can believe that. Edmundo Sosa has played almost as many games as Kingery, and he’s made less than $3M.

  5. A great start for Max Lazar with the Fightin’s….6 innings, no hits, no BB;s, 12Ks. I saw him pitch, looks good, and he looked good in Spring Training with the Phil’s…..again no runs allowed in 7 games.

  6. Jim,

    Saw this transaction on MILB.com

April 19, 2024 – Clearwater Threshers transferred RHP George Klassen to the Development List.

Do you know if this is procedural, to get others on the roster while he waits his next turn in the rotation?

Or maybe there is a plan to limit his innings as the year progresses?

    Or something else?

    Thanks!

  7. Probably roster manipulation (its required with the lower number of players each organization can have) along with keeping a limit on total innings GK throws this year

  8. Nice article on Inquirer website about Aidan Miller

    https://www.inquirer.com/phillies/phillies-prospect-aidan-miller-progress-20240425.html

Since it’s behind a pay wall, I’ll summarize a bit

“There have always been excuses about why I shouldn’t be a shortstop,” said Miller, a native of Dunedin, Fla. “I’ve heard it all my life. But I believe I can, and so do the Phillies. I’m 100% motivated by that.”

It’s said by the organization that he is a first round pick who works like a last round pick

He wasn’t use to seeing fastballs at high velocity … “He really didn’t want to mess with me too much, just because I hadn’t played too many games,” Miller said. “But I went up to him one day and I was like, ‘I just want to be more consistent on the fastball.’ And we just started to working and finding different ways to do it. “A lot of things we did didn’t work, and I hated it, or he didn’t like it. It was a long process, but we ultimately found the perfect thing that we both liked, and we just stuck with it. He’s been a great help to me.”

Unfortunately, nothing on why he hasn’t played in a bit.

      1. He sure does. The first pitch was really hard to handle. That’s our one gentleman of Verona!!! Does anyone remember a truly legit Italian-born and raised prospect? I don’t. It’s really cool.

  11. Klassen doing his thing again tonight … 5 IP, 1 hit, 1 walk and 6 Ks

    61 pitches with 42 strikes.

He’s gone 5 innings in each ofhis prior three starts.

    1. Came out for the sixth and gave up a leadoff double. A ground out moved runner to 3rd. Then he struck out the next 2, one on a fastbalk at 98.7 mph

  12. It’s too early in the season for promotions but Klassen and Aldegheri sure look like fast movers this year. If they keep this up, they could both move up in May, which is still very quick.

    Like

    1. Thought the same on Klassen…i.e., a promo to JS in May or June if he continues his high end pitching…….but understand that is not in the organization’s plans.

Not sure what the Phillies’ plans are for Aldegheri this season…he surely is impressive at his current level.

      1. you never know what they’re working on. It could be the time to break out a new pitch and work on it now, before a promotion. Do they have enough working well now to also be successful at the next level? Not always…

        1. Right now looks like Klassen’s rep. is 65/70% FBs (4Smr and Cut FB) and the remaining curve breaking ball…maybe you are correct , they may work on him developing something new or a variation of the FB with a new grip like a sinker or 2Smr…….would be great if he could perfect Nola’s 2Smr with that ASR….come into a LHB then makes a right turn over the plate. Or perhaps they will experiment with him on a change-up which is less stressful on the arm.

      2. Romus, I may be pushing for an earlier promotion than you are!! That’s a first! Anyway, Klassen hasn’t even given up an earned run, but they could be working on pitches with him in a low stress environment, which would make sense. That said, I am not sure how this could have gone any better for him and the team. He has like a 70-75 FB that moves. What a find.

Meanwhile, Mercado continued to do great at AAA – also no earned runs.

            1. Taking nothing away from his very good breaking pitches, the second-to-last pitch in the sequence is a 75-80 grade fastball. A ball that starts out fast and absolutely explodes through the zone – in fact it looks almost like a magic trick. I watched it again and again and could barely believe my eyes. Putting aside pitch command (which is a huge issue), that pitch would be the best pure fastball on the big league squad. Not quite the fastest (Soto and Alvarado actually throw a little harder), but the best. Yeah, it’s that good.

        1. Have to give credit to the Phillies scouts and also Dombrowski and Fuld on pulling the trigger for Michael Mercado out of the Rays’ organization…..really have to like what hidden nuggets they can uncover. Still a little early, and he is a bit older at 25-years old, and I want to curb my enthusiasm, but he looks like yet another diamond in the rough. He was a high draft pick by the Rays, so they saw something there in him, and maybe his future may be in the pen.
