Box Score Recap – 4/15/2018

Lehigh Valley and Reading lost.  Lakewood was rained out.  But, Sixto Sanchez made his long-awaited first start, AND Clearwater broke an 8-game losing streak.

Open Discussion: Week of April 15, 2018

I opened last week’s discussion stating that the Phillies were 3-5.  Well, they reeled off 6 wins, sweeping the Reds and Rays.  Granted, the Reds and Rays are two teams that the Phillies should beat.  But, back to back sweeps is impressive.

The Phillies magic number is 148 to clinch a home wild card game.  It’s not too early to buy those playoff tickets.

Lehigh Valley and Lakewood got great pitching from Zach Eflin, Will Stewart, and their bullpens and posted victories.

Clearwater didn’t, although Blake Quinn was impressive in relief.

Reading was scheduled off.

Lehigh Valley Report

A frigid first week of the season weather wise for the ‘Pigs who came out of it, 2-3 with their win over Scranton last night.  They currently sit in 4th place of the Northern DIvision of the International League, 1.5 games out of first place. With their 2-0 win last night, the ‘Pigs snapped a three game losing streak.  The ‘Pigs open their home schedule tonight with four games against Louisville.

–Five IronPigs pitchers combined on the shutout last night (Thompson,Leibrandt, Casimiro, Curtis, Beato)

–P Enyel De Los Santos (acquired in the Freddy Galvis deal) made his first IL start on Tuesday giving up a lone run across 5IP.  De Los Santos struck out 7 in his five innings.

–P Drew Anderson was placed on the DL yesterday after being diagnosed with a strained forearm.  Jake Thompson, who was optioned to Lehigh Valley on Sunday, made the start in place of Anderson.

–P Brandon Leibrandt is being transitioned into a relief pitcher, and has thrown well throwing 4.2 scoreless in his first two outings of the year.

–SS Alexei Amarista was signed as a free agent by Lehigh Valley in late March and has hit safely in all 4 of his games with the IronPigs.

–The ‘Pigs are really struggling with the stick in their first five games, hitting just .201, however hitters have drawn 25 walks ranking third in the IL.

–Closer Pedro Beato has converted 15 straight save opportunities going back to last year, including his first two this season.

–After a very good Spring Training with the big club, Jesmuel Valentin has started the season 0-13.

–LHP Cole Irvin was very impressive in his AAA debut, going 5IP and giving up just a run on four hits, while tying his career high of 10K’s.

–OF Andrew Pullin is hitless in his last 14AB after singling in his first AB of 2018

–Phillies minor league clubs currently are 5-18 on the season.

Box Score Recap – 4/10/2018

Lehigh Valley couldn’t hold onto a one run lead and lost.

Reading couldn’t hold onto a one run lead and lost in extras.

Clearwater couldn’t hold onto a two run lead and lost in ten.

Lakewood fell behind early and lost the first game of a double header.

Lakewood opened up a two touchdown lead and won game two.

2018 Gulf Coast League Schedules

Here is a preliminary look at the schedules for the 2018 Gulf Coast Phillies East and West.
Each team has a 54 game schedule with 27 home games.  The teams will be in different divisions, but face each other 7 times including a double header on Saturday, June 30th.  The teams alternate being the home team on that date.
Neither team has a game on Sunday.  Saturday games start at noon.  All other games are scheduled to start at noon.
