“Every New Beginning….

Comes from some other beginning’s end”. SemiSonic. So, in 2007, James gave me an opportunity to write for Phuture Phillies during a difficult personal time period and with that opportunity came over seven years of feeling “like a kid in a candy store”.  I had the opportunity to write about a passion and be in an environment (at the ballpark)that is one of my personal nirvana’s.  I met great people, learned a ton about the industry (media, baseball and management), and perhaps most importantly made lifelong friends.  To James, my heartfelt thanks.  When James left the site over two years ago, I did my best to keep up the site and did so with the goal of keeping the site aligned with James vision.  The day to day work in keeping up a site like this with a very demanding “real life” career is simply overwhelming.  So, with that said, I will be moving over to what I consider to be the best baseball resource in the Delaware Valley at Philly Baseball Insider (http://www.phillybaseballblog.com).  I expect to contribute there fairly regularly and appreciate the opportunity to continue my passion working for (with) a friend who is a regular writer for local newspapers and a huge baseball enthusiast.  I expect my participation to be limited until Spring Training, but expect to hit the ground running with pitchers and catchers….

Thanks to all those who have contributed to Phuture Phillies over the years.

Until next time…

  1. Thanks for your hard work over the last seven years and good luck with your new endeavor. Just two questions for you: 1) Who will take the site over – I am guessing Jim Peyton? and 2) Is Jim Peyton the original “James”?. Thanks again!

  2. First of all thanks so much Gregg for all of your hard work. I can’t imagine the effort that goes into a site like this. Thanks!

I am a bit confused about the overall site – is this the end of PhuturePhillies?

  3. First of all, let me second everyone who has said thanks to you for all your unpaid labor. This site has really been a wonderful resource and community and I’ve enjoyed having the opportunity to keep up with the system and express my opinions, however misguided they may be at times.

But like some other people, I’m also a bit confused about what’s going on. Is the site going to continue on? It would be a bummer if it didn’t, but at the same time I realize those people who have been doing this without compensation have their own lives to live.

  5. This is so bittersweet. Glad to see good people getting good opportunities that are well deserved. At the same time, this sucks if its gone for good. Would love to see someone step up and take it over. I literally check this site almost every day and have learned so much about players years before my friends know they exist. Hope the site continues but more imporantly, good luck with your endeavor

  6. I have been reading the site consistently for years (started visiting here once the philly.com forum got really bad) and would hate to see it go away. I am happy to see everyone move on to different opportunities. Please keep us informed about the future of the site.

  7. Another huge loss for Phillies Baseball. I’m deeply saddened to see you go. Keeping this website going has to be very difficult. I understand the burnout. Best to you in your future endeavors.

  8. Since it seems like this site is slowing down with gregg leaving, What are the other sites you guys visit. I am always on crashburn, philliesnation and thegoodphight.

Any other suggestions? Especially focused on minor leagues?

And I’m hoping Jim keeps posting here. I have really enjoyed his game decals from fl.
