Jesse Biddle with the line of the night – 2R, 1ER, 2H, 1HR, 1BB, 11K in 7IP. He threw 64 of 94 pitches for strikes, though Mike Drago said he went 101 pitches. Not sure which is correct, and how many strikes he threw, but it was his best performance of the year, to be sure. Cesar Hernandez went 3-5 with a home run and two runs scored. Without him, and with Maikel Franco on the bench and Cameron Rupp on the shelf, that Lehigh Valley lineup is…well…Tyson Gillies is the interesting guy in that box score, if that tells you anything.
Clearwater battled back from a 7-0 deficit to take the lead in the seventh, only to lose the lead a half inning later and lose the game in the 13th inning. Brian Pointer hasn’t had a hit since he was pulled early on Tuesday, though he did draw a pair of walks Friday. J.P. Crawford, Carlos Tocci and Dylan Cozens wach with three hits for Lakewood. Cozens was a triple short of the cycle, and his home run was his first of the year. Zach Green, Andrew Pullin and Samuel Hiciano each with a hit and a walk in that contest, but all that offense wasn’t enough to take the game, as Ranfi Casimiro got shelled – 9R, 5ER, 7H, 1HR, 4BB and no Ks, as he couldn’t escape the third inning.

Best night for the prospects so far this season

Yup, that Ironpigs box score looks about right (I was there)
I was surprised Franco wasn’t in, but a day off every now & then does them good. I did get to watch him take BP (three videos with poor quality, and Steve Susdorf was in the way for the last one):

thanks for the video! im not sure if its just me, but it looks like the load in his swing is a bit less than it has been in the past.

27 runs yesterday!!! Could the bats be waking up or was it a full moon?? Go Jesse

Cozens: 3-5 with a 2B, HR and a SB- -that’s an athletic line. Tocci has raised his average close to 200 points in the past four games (11 hits). Maybe we are warming up with the weather.

Does anybody remember the site that used to track LD and GB rates for minor league teams? I thought it was first inning, but I can’t seem to find that site anymore. I’m curious about whether Tocci is hitting the ball as well as his stat lines indicate. He’s yet to draw a walk on the season, and something about his numbers screams “Ben Revere” right now.

Thanks … He’s about 20 percent LD and 60 percent GB. The GB is higher than it should be, but its early and probably way too premature to be looking at numbers like these. I suppose I should be happy to see Tocci racking up base hits than reading the tea leaves anyhow …

Definately the best all around day in the system this year so far. Biddle dominated and most of the LWood hitters woke up.

Th one LWood hitter who didn’t get the wake-up call is Larry Greene.

Oh Juggs, how we’ve missed you and your Luis Garcia love. Seriously, was he your barber? Cause that would explain a lot.

So, Zach Green so far: K% down significantly to 18%, BB rate holding steady at about 10%, LD% is up a bit, his BABIP is .200. Has he been really unlucky or is he making weak contact? He’s hitting a lot less fly balls and more grounders so far also.

I listened to the Claws game last night for the first time and can tell you that Z Green crushed a ball that would have been an RBI double, but the CF made a ridiculous play. The announcers at that point said Green has been “unlucky” at this point in the season, and that he has been making great contact but is getting robbed. One of his other ABs should have been a hit but they ruled it an error (again according to the announcers). Hopefully the balls start find their gaps. I am encouraged about the lower K rate thus far.

I am sold…….back on the Zach Green Express.
Lower K rate, higher BB rate, higher LD rate, ‘unlucky’ so far,…all good markers for a healthy long-term prognosis.

he can’t play 3B so you have to ask yourself the entire time now….will he produce 1B numbers.

Never heard that before. What’s your source?

I wouldn’t put much stock into that statement about Green’s defense
Schimdtty had over 40 Es in his first two years at third base and he was 4 years older then Green is now, though he did play ss at Dayton U..

Schimdt could actually move at 3B Green doesn’t.

Who would you want to draft with our first round draft pick?

Aiken, but it looks like he might rise to #1

Alex Jackson if he gets to us. None of the pitchers are getting to us. I know Matt wants Holmes. Id take Jackson, Gatewood and Bradley Zimmer over Holmes.

Alex Jackson looks pretty good… Jacob Gatewood looks intriguing, but it would be horrible to have another toolsy high school hitter be a bust.
Pitching-wise, Tyler Beede might now fall to us, although while his control has gotten better, apparently his stuff is not as good now. Grant Holmes could also be a decent pick.

Astudillo and Perkins keep on rolling, two hits apiece this afternoon.
Astudillo moved up in the order.
Sev Gonzo pitched well.
