  1. Barnes was screwed by his placement. Clearly if he was placed in a more advanced league he’d be doing much better.

    1. If he was screwed by his placement, then he should be hitting the cover off of the ball. And if he is sulking over his assignment (as opposed to being pissed off and trying to prove something), then maybe there is an attitude problem.

Or it could be that it’s 30 at-bats and it’s nothing to worry about

      1. Apparently sarcasm doesn’t come out too well when typed.

At any rate, Nothing against Mr. Barnes. I root for him (as I do for all associated with the Phillies). I am just not a fan of the folks who log onto a message board and proclaim to know more than the organization. Discussion is one thing, but some of these posts boarder on ridiculous.

        1. ahh, yes, my sarcas-o-meter was malfunctioning (loose cable or something like that). I remember reading somewhere that it’s a shame that there isn’t a sarcasm font. 8^)

  2. Savery sucks, he could hit .600 in a major league career and it wouldn’t matter. Dave the $$$ Montgomery should have taken Rick Porcello but was to cheap. :-p

  3. What I’ve been reading about Aumont before the season, and his performance thus far has been the most promising thing for me.

Obviously 3.2 innings doesn’t mean anything, but it’s a start, and he was off the rails from the beginning last year.

    1. Zagurski had a good ST too. He can pitch in the big leagues for somebody, I am sure, as a LHP bullpen guy.

  4. Trying to temper my enthusiasm, but with the supposed lack of infielder prospects in the system, I’m encouraged by the starts of Overbeck, Garcia and Galvis.

    1. Overbeck has been relegated to 1B/DH. He’s behind Larish and Bozied, who like Overbeck can also play 3B badly and behind Rizzotti and Savery in the 1B/DH depth chart. I am still not that impressed by Garcia, but I am hopeful for the youngest and best glove man of the three you mention, Freddy Galvis.

    2. Disappointing that Rizzotti and Overbeck are both alternating between 1B and DH. Rizzotti should move up, so they can both play 1B every day. Not that 1B isn’t blocked for now. If Overbeck could actually play 3B, which he most definitely cannot, his path would be clear.

  5. At 19 for 32 Savery could go 0 for his next 31 and still be batting over .300. That won’t happen, so his 32 AB are better than 63 if you just want to know if he can hit .300 at Clearwater. 63 is still a small sample size, but when you consider his .359 in 46 AB at Lehigh Valley last year, I am very confident he will end the season hitting over .300 in the FSL.

      1. They need to start letting him play some outfield. I really dont think its necessary to have him focus on hitting exclusively at this point. Hes obviously one of the better hitters in the league.

        1. Yes, there is not a lot of OF competition at Reading. If Savery can be half decent on D he can muscle aside the immortal Mike Spidale.
