  2. 3 IP is a lot for a reliever who gets Ks. Great outing, but I don’t want to see DeFratus for a few days in the boxscore.

  3. Good to see the zeroes from De Fratus – I’m keeping an eye on Ebelin Lugo this year…probably the only “prospect” in that Clearwater bullpen.

    1. Very surprised they had DeFratus pitch a 3rd inning.

Appears that Lugo let both inherited runners score to bump up Cosart’s ERA.

Can we trade for that Whitenack guy? Wow! Schoenberger only starter with an hit and without a K! Only run scored on WP? James with 4Ks, Gump with 3Ks and Savery hitting below .700. CLW is in trouble now.

      1. It is in the box score, Inherited Runners-Scored: Lugo 1-1. Cosart left with no outs and 1 runner on, who scored with Lugo pitching.

      2. It’s a little odd, I looked up that Whitenack guy and his stats to this point haven’t been impressive. He’s not even much of a strikeout guy, but he is 6’5″. Maybe he got really good this year, otherwise I wonder why he was able to so thoroughly dominate Clearwater.

        1. I was a bit surprised as well when I saw his career stats, but he’s an older guy repeating A+… Threshers might have just caught him on a night where he had good stuff. God knows we’ve seen the Big club have strike-out fests against crappy MLB’s pitchers over the past few seasons.

  4. Hey…how about some decent weather so Lakewood can play some games!!?

Also, LV Ironpigs are stumped by rain, too.

Check out that 11 inning job in Reading; Zeid reads OK but lacking in his specialty: “Ks.”
DeFratus back on beam w 3 inns of scoreless relief with 2 Ks per inning. Earned the W.

Cosart faded in the 6th inning, ok ’til then.

Singleton needed back. Clwtr only one hit. Whitenack pitched a gem, facing only 28 batters. No hits for Savery who is in his first slump of the season.

    May tomorrow?

  5. Good pitching for Reading. Zeid almost thru 7. I hope Rosenberg gets back in a groove (he was hyped in 2010 preseason as coaches were talking him up) to add another quality relief option. I must have missed DeFratus getting blasted earlier in the year. 6K in 3innings is impressive.

Rizzotti still hitting. He and Overbeck may be destined for a Tagg Bozied life, I really hope they can at least get a chance in the Majors. Any update on Gillies?

      1. Hopefully he is updating his resume too or applying for colleges as I dont think he’ll ever make it with all this time missed.

        1. How can he have the same exact muscle injury a second year in a row like this? Wasn’t he rehabbing? Running? Yoga? Whatever?? Jeezzzz…. Makes no sense.

          Like

          1. When you have a major muscle tear to a big muscle like a hamstring, it is always more susceptible to another such injury regardless of how well you rehab it. That’s why you see guys that get repeated injuries to their legs once they do it once.

IIRC, he had a torn hamstring last year so that would make sense.

            1. Bummer for him – I was looking forward to seeing if he was closer to the player from High Desert 2 years ago, or the broken down one from Reading last year. Guess we already know the answer to that one.

        2. You’re all being too harsh on the kid. He has terrific ability and was starting to show it last year at Reading just before he got hurt. A hamstring tear is a serious injury and it often leads to a career of leg concerns. However, most guys can come back after they learn how to stretch properly. My guess is that Gillies will be back in May.

          1. Hope so. What worries me, apart from everything else (chronic nature of the injury, missed time, etc.) is the “Nebraska” part. Is that normal? Why wouldn’t he be at EST?

And why Nebraska anyway? Isn’t he Canadian? What’s in Nebraska besides farms?

            1. Teams of hamstring experts. That’s why they call Nebraska the “Corn and Hamstring State”

          2. I am with Murray here. People are to down on the kid. People make misstakes, i am a firm believer in second chances (key word “second”, no thirds) My question is there any kind of time table with him? Or is he stuck in limbo like Utley?

  6. Old friend Anthony Gose was 3 – 5 and seemed to be in on a lot of key plays. He had a single that scored a run but a guy in front of him was thrown out at 3rd. He then was caught stealing by Kennelly. He also had a single in the 7th where a guy was thrown out at home. On defense, he threw Rizzotti out at 3rd.

  7. Savery needs to take it one game at a time, get that avg back up above .800 slowly. A couple 4 for 4s should put him back on track.

  8. GOSE IS AT DOUBLE A SUPRISE ME THOUGHT HE WOULD START AT HIGH A. THEY MUST REALLY BE HIGH ON HIM IMO

    1. Gose would have been at AA this year in the Phillies system too since he played well at C Water last year. Shouldn’t be a surprise.

  9. Murry I just didnt think he had a good enough season at cleawater to get promoted, i believe he only hit about 263 for the year?

  10. Zeid and Cosart both pitched ok. Neither is getting the K numbers expected which suggests to me that their off speed stuff isn’t working yet. DeFratus must have really been on last night. I assume he got the 3rd inning because he threw so easy in his 2nd inning. Clearwater struck out 15 times and had only 1 hit. Ouch… Sometimes you have to give props to the other team’s pitching. Rizz continues to hit…

    1. field was bad last night in Clearwater so had some errors behind him last night.
Thought Cosart only had 2 earned runs since one scored on 2 errors.

      Batting was just HORRIBLE….

  11. I would like to see Dabbs and Dugan on a roster soon. They both seem to be swinging it well in EST. Dabbs was 2-3 against Kevin Millwood yesterday. Dugan seems to be in the OF not at 1st base.
