Trevor May demoted, Matt Way promoted

Way, May, good day!

May was young for the FSL, and as we noted, he had issues with his command and control, a not uncommon trait for raw pitchers. Maybe the Phillies simply want him to get back to basics, and felt it would be best to have him do that at Lakewood. Way, on the other hand, was too old for the SAL, and after a rough start to the season, had pitched better of late. He needs to be on the fast track.

  1. Good for Matt Way…he has been one of the best pitchers in the system since the month of May. Hopefully Trevor May finds his control.

  2. I have seen Matt Way pitch twice this year at Lakewood. First game he had very good control and located pitches. Friday night was the second time I seen him and his control wasn’t there. Seems to me that he needs to gain consistency with his control. Should be able to work on that in Clearwater.

  3. This is OT, but does anyone know what kind of stuff Lisalverto Bonilla has?

20 years old in GCL, so ARL is an issue, but he has been dominant in two outings, 14/1 ratio in 11 innings.

  4. So, to summarize PP’s thoughts and the first comment from kphilly: Way has been great since May, and May needs to find his Way. Couldn’t resist.

Best of luck to both guys, and a happy 4th to all the contributors/posters here.

  5. He earned his promotion. May, other then the walks, pitched ok his last 3 or 4 starts prior to his last. Hyatt needs anpther gd start or 2 before he has any chance of moving up. i think he was hurt. He went from Dominating to getting shelled then if you look at his start dates there are a few gaps- longer then the traditional 5 or 6 days. Happy 4th all. and please J.A. pitch well tonight

  6. Happ pitches . . . . not a no hitter.

Seriously, when is Happ going to have surgery? He’s laboring in the minors unnecessarily. Clearly still not right.

And how about Dom Brown? Last I heard, he had knocked in the first run, then hit a two run homer to give the Pigs the lead . . . then Happ came out to pitch again and. Oh well.

  7. Colvin pitches another good game for Lakewood. Has he moved ahead of May as a pitching prospect? He could have close to 9-10 wins if he got some support

  8. trading drabek was a joke. as was trading lee. not a problem now since the 2 and 3 hitter hit the dl . oh and the catcher great. maybe we should draft those positions. but that just may be me.

  9. Colvin has some interesting splits:

vs Lefties: 35 IP, 26 ER, 6.56 ERA
vs Righties: 52 IP, 14 ER, 2.41 ERA

Weird thing is lefties are only hitting .227 but versus righties he’s at .249. Yesterday Colvin gave up 2 Runs. They came on a Single and a HR from lefties. Lefties don’t hit him often but they hit him well.

  10. You did get someone name Roy Halladay when you traded Drabek. I think the Phils are happy with getting Halladay.

  11. You need to trade talent to get talent. This is not fleece time where you’re trading your junk for somebody’s superstar in baseball roto leagues.

  12. Drabek was been average at best this year. If anything, he has been disappointing. The start before this he got beat up by Reading I believe.

  13. Halladay pitches a perfect game in MLB, and drabek pitches a no-hitter in AA, and some people are upset with the trade?

  14. im not saying im unhappy with the trade but i remember people on here saying that drabek wasnt that good

  15. I have always liked Drabek. He has 2 plus pitches and he was the most talented pitching prospect we have had in a long, long time (including Hamels). He just needed experience and maturity.

  16. Hey guys, long time reader; love the site and the comments.

I’m glad May got his feet wet in Clearwater, it’s good for him and even though it wasn’t successful in numbers; here’s to hoping he re-finds his groove at Lakewood.

Also good for Matt Way. Nice to see anyone get promoted but he’s been doing well (as has been noted) recently so hopefully he continues.
