The Phillies called up infielder Cody Ransom today and designated infielder Brian Bocock for assignment. Ransom, 34, is among the leaders in the International League in homers (16) and RBI’s (51) and was recently selected to represent Lehigh Valley in the IL All Star Game. Although hitting for power, Ransom often has trouble putting his bat on the ball, as he is among IL leaders in strikeouts as well with 90 thus far on the year. Ransom was drafted as a SS but has spent most of his time at 3B. He is an average fielder at best (16 errors this year), some very costly for Lehigh Valley. Ransom’s hitting line .238/.309/.456. Ransom was most recently in the bigs with the Yankees last year, starting the year as the everyday 3B while AROD recovered from injury. He hit .190 in 79 AB’s with the Yanks last year.
Bocock was designated without playing an inning for the big club. No doubt the right move here, but far from the answer.
Taking the Lehigh Valley roster spot of Cody Ransom for now is 2B/SS Ozzie Chavez, called up from Reading. Chavez, 26, was hitting .218/.316/.287 in 188 AB’s for Reading. He added a homer and 18 RBI’s, playing predominately 2B for the Rphils.
makes it pretty clear that garcia comes up to reading the minute his streak ends

Matt Way just told me he has been called up to Clearwater with Trevor May being demoted to Lakewood

Huge blow to May if true. Kinda takes the shine of his prospect status to take that type of step back.

Also. Cosart’s injury seems to be more serious than first thought as he is leaving Lakewood to rehab in Clearwater and told me he may not be able to pitch in the futures game.

Just found this video…Not that it has anything to do with the topic, but MAN does the ball coming off Rizzotti’s bat sound good! Short swing, relativity no leg kick; Wow can that kid hit a baseball!

The Riz seems to run okay in the video. Ten more lbs off and throw him in left ala the Bull and see what Jerry Martin is doing.

Harold Garcia- has now tied the FSL hitting streak record and after tonight’s game he should be recalled. Either he sets the new record, and there is no sense in leaving him down to pad the record, or the streak is broken and there is no reason to leave him down. I hope and think he will break the record, and do well in Reading till tje September end of minor league season, and since he is still Rule 5 eligible they should recall him for Middle Infield depth.

Right on. Another injury is possible.
? Do you mean to Reading or the show?

Well Reading after the hitting streak record is set tonight, then they can recall him in September since he would have to go on the 40 man roster in the offseason if they want to keep him.
