Roster Merry Go Round

The Phillies bullpen is suddenly paper thin as Clay Condrey joined both JC ROmero and Chad Durbin on the DL.  Sent back down to Lehigh Valley was Drew Carpenter, who had consecutive rough outings and pitched back to back nights, thus giving the Phils the necessity for another bullpen arm.  Kyle Kendrick and STeven Register were recalled from AAA Lehigh Valley.

Kendrick, 24, is 6-6 with a 3.58 ERA in 20 stars, has been very consistent for Lehigh Valley. It is his second trip up to Philly this year and likely will pitch in long relief.  He last threw for the ‘Pigs Wednesday, and today would be his normal day to throw on the side, so he more than likely would be available to throw an inning or two if necessary.  Register, 26, was acquired out of the COlorado organization and had been used by the ‘Pigs during the late innings closing, at times.  I would suspect he will be a mid-inning, mop up type guy for the Phils.  Register is 1-2 with a 2.88 ERA in 20 appearances for Lehigh Valley with 5 saves.  The opponent is hitting .255 against him and he has a WHIP of 1.36. He pitched in 10 games with the Rockies last year with a 9.00 ERA.

  1. Glad to see KK back. If he can give the Phils something close to what CH Park does he can stay a little longer this time.

  2. Didn’t KK give up five runs in his last game, all earned? It’s never known if he was told to throw certain pitches no matter the count or the situation because he’s supposed to work on something. But he really needs to make something happen against lefty hitters if he’s ever going to stick in the majors again.

And that Register kid looked petrified out there today. Came in with a 9 run lead and he looked like he was closing game 7 of the WS. I see his numbers from AAA. But has anyone seen enough of him pitching to know if that’s all he’s got?

Maybe he’ll calm down with time.

  3. Register put up a 9 ERA in 10 appearances with the Rockies last season so it would appear that what you saw is what he has…

    Another AAAA guy..

  4. The wonder is that with so many pitchers going down with arm strains (?) they have been able to fill in with others who could be classified as “no-names.”

Guys bouncing back and forth between LV and bigs. Not many teams could make Lopez look good…though he has shown some moxie.

    Who’s up who’s down…

P.S. Glad that Halladay for Drabek, Happ and Brown was rejected!! Keepo them all…we’ll still win it! As well as the future!

  5. The bullpen is depleted big time right now! That strengthens the argument to obtain Halladay right now. He alleviates the burden on the pen. Give up Drabek, Happ and Taylor and get it done. We want to hold Brown as he will develop at the right time to fit into our outfield. Taylor is ready now and we don’t have a spot for him.
I am thrilled to be going on vacation in one hour out of the country. I cannot take all of the talk. I am hopeful that I get to see Halladay’s next start in a Phils uniform when I return.

  6. dear nails: I a m also glad you are leaving the country so I dont have to see your assanine remarks about keeping Brown over Taylor. Do you relaize Taylor is RIGHT HANDED. Do you also realized the core of our hitters are LEFT HANDED !!!!! Hope you have a great trip

  7. Dick youre making that comment in bold and capitals like ur clearly right…When in fact probably 70% of the scouting community would disagree with you….ps you dont just trade one player because he bats the same handed as ur big league players, um yeah there is alot more that go into it than that!

  9. Hasn’t it always been common baseball knowledge that left-handed hitters are better than right-handed hitters?
