Dan Romano has joined the team, and will be helping out with the weekly Lakewood report. I want to say thanks to all of those who inquired, we had over a half dozen responses in just a day. Dan has experience using WordPress, so he had an inside track here, and I look forward to his contributions. I’ll keep all of you who got in touch with me in mind for future projects, of which I’m sure there will be many. Thanks again for all of the inquires.

  1. Thanks – glad to be here.

I’ve written sports for Temple University’s newspaper (although admittedly, I’ve done more football and hockey, though not of my own choosing). So I’m definitely looking forward to the job here.

  2. Alright, welcome, I have a question for you, I was reading over the “21 and Under draft blog” and they were commenting on one of the college pitchers in this years draft, saying he had a plus plus 2nd pitch (in this case a slider) My question is, what exactly is the rating system for a pitch… For example, Cole Hamels (*when he’s on his game) Has a changeup that is vastly superior to the next level (*still elite but not the same) below him. Clearly we could catigorize brandon webb (*since they’re playing him tonight) as a plus changeup and his sinker as plus plus, how would one describe Cole’s version, plus plus plus?… if there is such a thing. In other words, it seems to me that having only 3 categories: “can throw it”, “plus” (above average), “plus plus” (dominant pitch) can make it difficult to seperate prospects coming up from highschool. Additionally, if a highschooler is considered as having a plus plus pitch, is that the same quality as a major league pitcher who makes MLB All-stars look down right silly at times?
