Cardenas placed on DL

Per Baseball America’s weekly transactions update yesterday, Cardenas has been placed on the 7 day DL. Hopefully Jeff can give us an update, but it was probably a precautionary move more than anything.

  1. Well, since you asked for it – I think he’s got back problems.

Oh wait, you meant the Jeff who actually knows stuff ;^)

  2. The official roster at minor league baseball shows that EVERY players on the Clearwater DL is on the “7-Day DL” and all the others listed as such have been out the entire season, so I’m not quite sure that the term “7-Day DL” means too much. Cardenas has already been out two weeks anyway, and now will miss at least one more week. The one thing different about Cardenas and the others, is that Cardenas still dresses out for the games and is in the dugout, so his injury can’t be too bad, but at the same time if it causes you to miss three weeks there has too be something to it. Last time I heard Cardenas comment on his back he just kind of shrugged and said it was “OK” and that was just about two days ago. I know that really doesn’t say much, but unfortunately that is about all I can offer at this point.

  3. I’m not so sure this is about being cautious. This has been dragging on for awhile. Every time I asked AC when was he coming back… It was always a couple more days. Now, he finally lands on the DL. I think his “dressing out” is more of a testament to his dedication and commitment. Not the slightness of his injury. He continues to keep his book on pitchers. And, he’s been the biggest cheerleader on the team. Now that he’s on the DL… I’m betting he’s sitting with the pitchers, charting in his book on Saturday. Because that’s his dedication to the game. Unfortunately, I also have a feeling he will be sidelined more than 7 days.
