Spring Training games begin

The Phillies started off their Grapefruit League campaign with an 8-1 win over Cincinnati. Carlos Carrasco pitched a perfect 8th inning, which is nice to see. No other real prospect action yesterday, but a good start for Carlos. He’ll probably stay with the club for a few weeks before being re-assigned to the minor league complex. There was also an article written yesterday about Carrasco’s unfortunate circumstances off the field earlier this winter. We’ll hope that everything gets sorted out in that regard.

I’ve also completed the Quintin Berry profile page, so check that out. It’s good to have baseball back.

  1. Carrasco seems to work well with Coste. Everything was down except a waste pitch. Threw so few pitches in a one, two, three inning that Dubee sent him back to the pen get in more work.

  2. Savery got torched for 5 runs on 4 hits and 1 BB in his 1 inning of work. He had 2 Ks, but Nate McLouth jacked a 2 run shot off him.

Hopefully it was just a case of nerves, which is understandable for his first outing.

Rosario had a solid inning, though he did mix in his typical BB.

Jason Donald made an error but also helped turn a twin killing.

Jaramillo is in the game now, too…

  3. Rosario went another inning, walked another batter, and gave up a run. He did K 3 batters in his 2 IP.

Outman got rocked, failing to get out of his second inning of work. He yielded 5 hits and 4 runs in 1.2 IP. Holdzkom relieved him and walked one before retiring the side.

Phillies trail 11-5. Most starters have been replaced.

Updates can be found at the Phillies MLB page, but the media player is down.

  4. Good for Savery and Outman to get their inevitable shelling out of the way. Now just be marginally decent the next outing and have one good outing before ST is over and it’s a good spring for them.
