It’s official, Zagurski up, Coste Down, Myers on DL

Press release.

Not really surprising, you can’t run the risk of hurting Myers further by having him out there less than 100%. Good luck to Zagurski, pray he throws strikes, and if he does, he should be up to stay. As for Coste, this isn’t surprising either, as he hasn’t really gotten AB’s since being recalled. The sad thing is, this means Barajas will remain a Phillie for a while longer.

Update: Mike was hitting 92-93 tonight. His velo is definitely up from 2005 and it looks like it’s up even from last year. If he throws like that consistently, he won’t be going back to the minors.

  1. Gillick shows once again his utter cluelessness, today woulda primetime to “Fasano” Barajas and allow Coste to be the backup catcher.. I know, Barajas makes too much monney for Stand Pat to release him, so it goes.

  2. I find it interesting that Coste was sent to AA reading instead of Ottawa…It might be my blind optimism, but could that be a sign that Gillick wants him to get starts at catcher without distrupting Jaramillo. It also signals he wants to keep him close, which could mean hes working on something with barajas. I hope, I pray.

On another note, while im sad to see myers go down, I am really happy that Gillick did not go with the usual AAA suspects and decided to take a chance on Zagurski. I hope he does really well and makes an impression.

  3. 1-2-3 inning against the Braves. Seems surreal watching him on TBS tonight having seen him take the mound only 13 days ago for the Threshers. Forget Myers, forget Gordon – the Z-man has arrived!

  4. It was actually Coste’s idea to go to AA so that he could catch more, something that wouldn’t have happened at AAA with Jaramillo there.
