Hey, not bad. There will be a chat at 2:30 Eastern, so if you want, try and get some Phillies questions answered.

  1. I attended the Reading vs. Connecticut game on the 25th. It wasa beautiful night for baseball. At game time, it was 81 degrees and low humidity on Chase Utley bobble-head night. Shane V. was doing a rehab assignment and was at the top of the order. Carpenter was on the mound. A couple of hotdogs, a Yeungling and a pretzel…life was good.

Some reflections on the game: Carpenter gave up two runs in the 1st inning. He struck out the side but gave up 2 doubles, a single, a stolen base and a walk. He ended with 7 Ks and only gave up the 2 runs i 6 innings pitched but seemedto be behind batters… a lot. The Defenders fielded a team with 5 or 6 guys batting under .200 at game time. He didn’t take the loss because the Phils came back to win it 3-2. He wasn’t around for the win. Kershner got the win, pitching 2 innings. Overholt finished with the save. He was overpowering the CT guys and topped out at 93 MPH on the gun.

Shane V. led off the Phils first with a deep drive to right that was caught on the warning track. He finished 1 for 3 but ended up at the tail-end of a weird DP because of poor baserunning. Appert led off the bottomof the 7th with a pinch single. V. singled to left. Appert looked like he’d go 1st to 3rd easily. He didn’t seem to be running very hard rounding 2nd. The RF (Copeland) gunned the ball to 3rd and caught him by an arm. V. took a big turn at first and was thrown out trying to get back into 1st. Donald, who finished with 2 hits, singled before Golson struck out. 3 solid hits in one inning and nothing to show for it. It looked like it wasn’t going to be the Phils night.

Slayden hit a homer to left following a single to Marson to bail Carpenter out and make the Phils winners. The Defenders had a soft tosser in to start the game. He had a side-arm delivery with no wind-up. He shattered a few Phils bats during the game while barely hitting 80 on the radar gun. A flame-thrower named Pichardo started in the 7th. He was throwing 92 -93 and topped out at 95mph. Slayden used that thrust to deposit his homer.

Marson looked pretty good at the plate going 2 for 3. He scored ahead of Slayden when he homered and knocked in Donald with the Phils 1st run. Donald stole that run… literally. He singled and stole second and scored on Marson’s single. Golson didn’t look too good.. striking out twice.
